Historia
When Frank Meyer and his family are executed during a home invasion, the police begin investigating the secret life they're sure Meyer had. Joe Pike's on a hunt of his own: to clear his friend's name, and to punish the people who murdered him. What starts out as a simple trail gets twisted fast by old grudges, double crosses, blood vengeance, and a crime so terrible even Pike and his partner Elvis Cole have no way to measure it.

Revisado: 01-17-10
This book suuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuucks! Really bad writing. I get embarrassed by what I am listening to even though I am all by myself.

Historia
As a young political geek, Matt Latimer dreamed of one day heading to Washington to work for a conservative president and usher in another Reagan Revolution. With the support of his slightly mortified liberal parents, he tried to do just that - but his youthful exuberance began to cool as he moved up the rungs of power.

huh?
Revisado: 10-05-09
Told from the perspective of a man who was something that amounted to a page in the white house, we are graced with his perspectives and opinions on politics, current events, and modern historical figures. The book came across as childish and the only thing that could have devalued the narration was the narrator himself. I was surprised to find that it was not the author actually reading the book. Very poor on both ends. I learned about this book through a Fresh air interview. The interview was much better than the book. The portions with Rumsfield were somewhat insightful but that was always clouded by the writer's shallow perspectives. You will find no major speeches authored by this fellow. He was more of a cue card type of writer making cocktail blurbs for famous people.
On the other hand, folks who are fans of Sarah Palin will find this a literary masterpiece.

Historia
How will we live well in a super-networked, information-soaked, yet predictably irrational world? The only way to know is to understand how the way we think is changing. As economist Tyler Cowen boldly shows in Create Your Own Economy, the way we think now is changing more rapidly than it has in a very long time. Not since the Industrial Revolution has a man-made creation - in this case, the World Wide Web - so greatly influenced the way our minds work and our human potential.

Awful!!
Revisado: 08-19-09
I have no idea how this book was created. I have NEVER shut down an audible selection without at least getting halfway through it. This one was unbearable. At one point the author is literally explaining in depth how an ipod is organized with playlists and favorites. Keep in mind, most of us are listening to this on an ipod or mp3 player. The other chapters were no better. Very, very, poor content!

A cosmic war is a religious war. It is a battle not between armies or nations, but between the forces of good and evil, a war in which God is believed to be directly engaged on behalf of one side against the other. The hijackers who attacked the United States on September 11, 2001, thought they were fighting a cosmic war. According to award-winning writer and scholar of religions Reza Aslan, by infusing the United States War on Terror with the same kind of religiously polarizing rhetoric and Manichean worldview, is also fighting a cosmic war - a war that can’t be won.

I wish the book were as good as the introduction
Revisado: 05-23-09
This was a hard one to finish and held a subtle bias. According to the author Christian fundamentalists are dangerous because they follow their scriptures while Muslim fundamentalists are dangerous because they do not. It was interesting to get his perspective on western fundamentalism but in the end there was not enough objectivity for my desire to make this a useful study.

Historia
In the breakthrough spirit of Against the Gods, William Bernstein's The Birth of Plenty has the topical uniqueness and storytelling panache to literally create its own category and reader. Based upon the premise that mankind experienced virtually zero economic growth from the dawn of time until 1820, this provocative, big-picture book identifies the four conditions necessary for sustained economic progress.

Rich title...poor book
Revisado: 08-16-07
The author presented a lot of information that was interesting but the title leads one to belief there will be more depth than is actually there. In the end we get too much information, go down too many rabbit trails, and fail to really hit the point of what we were hoping to find in the book. Well done, but it all seemed like an introduction.

Disregard the title...
Revisado: 07-19-07
This was really dreadful. The first hour or so was ok but then it just went down, down, down. Eleven hours of fluff, motivation speak. The title leads one to believer there is some real financial planning substance here. There isn't. Some of the stories were so ridiculous it was sad. Motivational speak from some very shallow people.

Historia
In Top Performer, you'll meet Jim, a disciplined but uninspired sales manager. In London, on vacation, (his first in years) he meets Top Hat. In an engrossing conversation, Top Hat tells him about a legendary Dublin busker/street performer called the Rat Catcher, who engages his audience and effortlessly charms them into parting easily with their change. Top Hat then gives Jim an envelope to bring to the Rat Catcher as a form of introduction. Jim is incredulous, and even a bit suspicious.

I was really expecting more. Halfway through the book I was guessing what the final conclusion would be and thinking surely that's not where he is going...surely he has more to say than that. Wrong. That was all there was to it.

Revisado: 03-02-07
I was looking for a real sampling of the 50 classics. Instead I get a book report on each of the books. Not good at all. I enjoy these books for the motivation this provides. Each new sample kept me feeling that I had been suckered.
