Historia
The secret behind France's astonishingly well-behaved children is here. When American journalist Pamela Druckerman has a baby in Paris, she doesn't aspire to become a "French parent". French parenting isn't a known thing, like French fashion or French cheese. Even French parents themselves insist they aren't doing anything special. But French children are far better behaved and more in command of themselves than American kids....

Not a fan of narrator; Story felt drawn out
Revisado: 12-27-23
I have been looking forward to reading this book for months because I heard a lot of good reviews of it. Overall, I felt that the chapters were a lot longer than they needed to be and I ended up skipping through some of them because the stories went really long and were repetitive. It is important to keep in mind that this is the example of just one family because at times it felt like their family was being used as an example of the typical American family and I didn’t feel that I identified with it as an American parent to be. I was not a fan of the narrator. Her attempts at a French accent were painful and the voice she uses when impersonating a child were painstaking. I think I would have rather skimmed the hard copy.

Michael Pollan, known for his best-selling nonfiction audio, including The Omnivores Dilemma and How to Change Your Mind, conceived and wrote Caffeine: How Caffeine Created the Modern World as an Audible Original. In this controversial and exciting listen, Pollan explores caffeine’s power as the most-used drug in the world - and the only one we give to children (in soda pop) as a treat.

Quick, informative and light
Revisado: 12-27-23
I liked the length of the chapters, information that was laid out, and the narration speed. It was informative and fun, and gives you some good background knowledge. Serves as a good conversation starter and also informs your decisions about your own relationship with caffeine.

Historia
As a first-time parent, Kyl Myers had one aspect dialed in from the start: not being beholden to the boy-girl binary, disparities, or stereotypes from the day a child is born. With no wish to eliminate gender but rather gender discrimination, Kyl and her husband, Brent, ventured off on a parenting path less traveled. Raising a confident, compassionate, and self-aware person was all that mattered.

Incredibly valuable read for a new parent
Revisado: 08-27-23
We are expecting and it’s important to us that we create a “gender full” world as opposed to a “gender-less” world or one full of gender stereotyped boxes our kid has to fit into, to use some of the author’s words. We found this book very helpful in identifying ways to navigate certain topics and interactions, and it makes gender creative parenting sound less scary than many imagine it to be.
I will note though that the author mentions a few times that their family’s experience (one they describe of relative ease with their families and society in Salt Lake, albeit with plenty of negative internet feedback) is not everyone’s case. Depending on your family background and dynamics, socioeconomic status, academic background, cultural or religious foundations etc, this specific family’s case may feel overwhelmingly positive when you’re in a dark space. Advise approaching it in that mindful state.

A nice break from nonfiction
Revisado: 01-01-23
Follows the life story of two game designers and one of their close friends. Some of the plot is predictable and some is a big surprise. Would read again and recommend. Rated 4 out of 5 because it goes a little slow at times (narration speed and plot wise).

Historia
Somewhere out beyond the edge of the universe there is a library that contains an infinite number of books, each one the story of another reality. One tells the story of your life as it is, along with another book for the other life you could have lived if you had made a different choice at any point in your life. While we all wonder how our lives might have been, what if you had the chance to go to the library and see for yourself? Would any of these other lives truly be better? In The Midnight Library, Nora Seed finds herself faced with this decision.

Warning: Suicide
Revisado: 11-18-22
For how heavily recommended this books is, I wish someone had warned me that the basis of the plot line is a suicide and eventual ‘recovery’ (chance to go back and undo it). If you have lost a loved one to suicide or addiction, or have struggled yourself, I will caution you that this is a glamorized version of the hold depression and despair can truly have on a human. Knowing this now, I would not have chosen to read it.
