Historia
Liv’s happy with life in her thirties. She has two cats, one BFF, and no boyfriend, which is just how she likes it. Plus, she loves working at a not-for-profit software company where she can be her authentically autistic self. This is her happy ever after. But when her beloved firm merges with a repulsive rival, Liv finds herself competing with her sort-of-ex for the top job. Sure, Finn had been Liv’s best friend, with his nerdy good looks and their shared love of Tolkien, but there was that one night, their song, and … well, she doesn’t like to talk about it.

Adorable story with fantastic narrators
Revisado: 04-13-25
From the first word in a cheeky British accent I knew I would like this book! The clever turns of phrase delivered with the perfect sprinkle of snark and self deprecation are wonderful and occasionally made me laugh out loud. The Bike Scene! 🤣 great narrators, and that sexy Scottish accent made me absolutely adore Finn. He is a perfect, not-so-perfect book boyfriend. An overall enjoyable read. Wish this author had more!

Historia
Lola Landry stares through the window of her locked car with the keys in the ignition and the radio blaring Beck’s “Loser”. While standing there and sweltering in the soupy Tennessee humidity, she wonders how her orderly life had crashed and burned so badly. Then her high school nemesis saunters up in all of his tall, strapping fireman-to-the-rescue glory, slapping her with the humiliating proof that it can always get worse. When the uber-confident Jedediah Lawson requests a date in return for popping her lock, a lightbulb goes off.

Now that’s a proper Green Valley story!
Revisado: 12-15-24
I’ve read nearly all of the Green Valley books, and not all of them measure up to the original Winston Bros series in content or narration, usually due to the female narrators, because, of course, Chris Brinkley is perfection. But this one did! The energy and spunk of the female narrator was just as entertaining as Joy Nash’s performances, the story was fun and made me laugh out loud at times, and the steamy parts were just the right steamy, not bland like some of the others in the series by other authors. (They almost sounded afraid to mention that people have sex or how it feels. lol) Well done, and a fun addition to the GV universe.

Vali Erickson is the classic middle child - misunderstood, underestimated, and overlooked. He’s fine with it. Really. The overlooked part is actually serving him well during this phase of life. Margaret O’Neal is an only child who has led a sheltered life. She’s used to being a wallflower. Her ability to blend into the background is what allows her to maintain her anonymity as a gossip columnist for the Green Valley Ledger.

Good story overall
Revisado: 12-15-24
The story was fun and sweet. The only complaint I had was about the female narrator. She had this annoying affected breath sound (as best as I can describe it) at the end of nearly every sentence. It was so distracting and extremely annoying. I will avoid all books by her in the future.

Nora Stephens' life is books—she’s read them all—and she is not that type of heroine. Not the plucky one, not the laidback dream girl, and especially not the sweetheart. In fact, the only people Nora is a heroine for are her clients, for whom she lands enormous deals as a cutthroat literary agent, and her beloved little sister Libby.

Luckily, Ava has just received a surprising and delectably absurd offer from her posh doppelgänger at work. Wow. What happened?
Revisado: 10-31-24
I’m a huge Penny Reid fan. Love the Winston Bros and all the canon side stories. I was excited to listen to this one. And then I almost turned it off in the first chapter. Female narrator is extremely annoying, sounding like she’s yelling all the time and her accents are awful, even when they’re not trying to be. It’s anxiety provoking. And later, I realized I was annoyed with the character in general. She is way too whiny for a 25 year old, doesn’t listen to what people say, and lives in her own whiny dreamworld. I get the idea of trying to create a neurodivergent character, but she doesn’t need to be completely neurotic and off the wall. I began to dread when the female was narrating. The guy narrator was ok, but for whatever reason, portrayed Henry as almost a surfer dude, an off-putting choice for that character. The story dragged as it became a treatise on Bipolar and all of the action began happening offstage. Could have done without the epilogue because it made it feel like I was being bashed in the face with the bullet points of her bipolar research notes. Just too much, Miss Reid. I’ll keep listening to the ones I like and hope that the next one will be more fun and less psychoanalysis. (It’s outed my least favorite Winston book, Shelly’s story, out of last place.)

Loved this book!
Revisado: 10-24-24
Narration was excellent. Story had great pace and just the right amount of quirky angst. Love the MMCs who are all well developed. Charlie is endearing and sweet, Ethan is loyal and stalwart, and Drew is the sexy ex. FMC isn’t annoying with too much inner monologue like other books are, though I do wish she had talked to Charlie about the coat room sooner! Laughed out loud at several points and overall a fun and engaging read. Will read more by this author for sure.

Iris Nightingale is more than okay. She has her life planned out to a perfect schedule. Work, run, sleep, repeat. She spends her quiet Friday nights sitting alone on a bench in the park, trying to push back the memories that no amount of running can help her escape. But one evening, there’s someone else on her bench - Hunter. Tall, wry and infuriating: everything about him gets under Iris’s skin. Little does she know that he's about to upset more than just her routines...

Revisado: 06-24-24
Narration was quite good. Would have liked a little deepening of her voice for the male lines because sometimes it was difficult to know who was speaking. Had some laugh out loud parts. Relatable characters that didn’t feel like overdone stereotypes or tropes. A good, engaging read overall.

I gave up an hour in. The “influencer speak” and affected tone were just too cringey to put up with. I always love the full production pieces but I just could not engage with this character a moment longer. She is so annoying.
