Wish it was longer. There needs to be sequels. Hated when it was over.

I love having the author narrate his own books. You know you are getting proper emphasis and tone of a statement that way. And this book does not disappoint in that area. It just reiterates that this author, either in print or with voice, is a GREAT storyteller!

The timing of listening to this book and the rest of this series could not be more important. Current events in Israel demand an opinion on the matter. And an informed one is more valid than an uninformed one. In that context, one's view of modern Israel's place in the world is crucial. Do they have some current divine right to the land as many believe? Or did they but no more? How you answer that question is pivotal to how you see current events and understand the headlines.

That is where this important book series comes into play. By weaving a fictional story into a theological framework, the reader can become aware of a very important and historical view of Israel. I have scholarly books on the topic. I even have a non-fiction book on the topic by this very author. But that view in story form does not feel like you are going to school. You end up with the same result by feeling like you've gone to a movie.

Don't get me wrong though. This book, and this whole series, is heavily footnoted if you want to get into the basis for the details. In that way, you are almost getting two books in one. You are getting a fictional story as well as the non-fiction behind it. The story is entertaining. But the footnotes really elevate the educational benefit of the book.

I would encourage everyone to read or listen to these books whether you agree with the historical and theological framework or not. The story is greatly entertaining no matter what your view of end times is. The reason for this recommendation is that we always benefit with increased knowledge. Even if we do not end up changing our minds, knowing why others believe the way they do and the reasons for it can only benefit our discussions on such important matters as the history of the Jews and their place in history. I would go a step further and say that you should particularly pick up this series if you are a fan of other end times novels so that confirmation bias can be challenged. "Iron sharpens iron", as they say. And that doesn't happen unless we put our preconceptions to the test. And doing so with a work of fiction is a lot less threatening and more accessible than some heavy volume with scholarly words.

I am actually practicing what I preach. I am open to some of the spiritual and theological worldview in this book. But I am not convinced of it. But by being strategic and purposeful in exposing myself to ideas that I am not already convinced of, I step out of an echo chamber and actually learn new things. And with Godawa's work, I can do so in a non-threatening manner, knowing that his many other books and online courses and interviews are there for more serious study. So join me in a journey. Learn something new. You will never regret knowing more.

While I appreciate the author tackling the tough topic of rape in such an open and honest way, I prefer the murder mysteries over this particular story. That is not to say that they are better. They are just easier for me to personally mentally deal with. This book, as with any that examines the topic of rape in a serious way, is kinda heavy. And I suppose that is probably the best compliment that I can give it.

Not sure if I will even finish this title, something rare for me. But the ways that the author describes religion and how he characterizes those with religious beliefs is just plain in insulting. I don't think there is a negative stereotype he didn't use at least once. At this point I have to wonder if this book isn't the "atheist fiction" alternate to poorly written "Christian fiction". It is written in the same way where an agenda overshadows a shallow plot used as an excuse for said agenda. I am pretty disappointed.

I will do this without spoilers. I loved the plot twist at the end, but I'm not convinced that it would have brought about the legal conclusion described. It would not eliminate the case that was brought.
