it's OK. There is almost more romance (and soberly more action) between the characters from previous books than there is between the so-called MCs. Nothing at all as enthralling as the Cynster or similar works. The murder mystery holds little tension mostly because the descriptions are soooooo long that it loses the angst.

I think this is my all time favorite, along with Lisa kleypas, Mine till Morning. relatively low-angst, men who are open about where they stand. no deceptions or inability to communicate on the part of the MCs.

just good.

Grimaced. Say that to yourself. Then turn the 'a' into a hard a. ugh. With all the grim'a'cing in the story, it interrupts the flow and becomes increasingly disturbing. Not enough to lower my estimation of the story, but enough to have me writing this review.

Is that how the British pronounce the word? ugh

I don't mind a tortured-soul hero most of the time, but this one just goes too far. It's a story of constant self-flagelation. if you want to read a story that leaves you in constant frustration, this is it. It's not until the very, very end that there is any relief from the angst.

Pippa is great, though, as a few others have pointed out, her constantly going back to him, regardless of his asinine behavior, starts to grate after a while. At no point did he consider that she might actually be adult enough to make her own decisions about their life. Or her life.

I wanted to like this book, I really, really did. But I suppose I like a love story that doesn't force a woman, or man, for that matter, to trample all over the person they supposedly love in order to reach their mutual satisfaction.

Also, spoiler, the steam in this book is almost nothing more than one person's yoga about what they would like to do, very little of what they actually do to each other. And I did not find the no-touching lesson nearly as hot a I expected based on other reviews. maybe it was because I was already so frustrated on her behalf.

you can read the magic storyline elsewhere. this is a warning. if you like strong women, this is only going to frustrate you. it's not that Kit isn't strong, or very likeable, when she's on her own. instead, it's that she is so effing overcome with lust that she just gives up and says, "oh, I'll correct him next time" EVERY single time. even at the end, when he's been such an arrogant bastard, AGAIN, she "decides" she can't even ask him to stop, wait, listen, and talk because she is so overcome. it's just annoying.

the narrator is really good. the storyline is very good. I even like both Jack and Kit when they as individuals. he'll, their sex scenes are scintillating and, if a bit redundant still good. but their communication and overwhelming lust misses the romance by a wide mark.

I wanted to like this book, so much. But both characters fail in each other's presence such that even at the end the authors belated assurances that they love each other are unconvincing.

If Jack would, even for a moment, actually see when she had something to say. And if Kit would, even for a moment, ask him to wait and hear her, I might have left feeling a little less indignant.

As it is, for two people who are supposedly dammed smart, neither is up to snuff. All he does is command her, and EVERY SINGLE TIME, she simply CAN'T not do a he says. EVERY EFFING TIME.

They are in lust. Not love. There is no actual love in this novel.
