Darrow would have lived in peace, but his enemies brought him war. The Gold overlords demanded his obedience, hanged his wife, and enslaved his people. But Darrow is determined to fight back. Risking everything to transform himself and breach Gold society, Darrow has battled to survive the cutthroat rivalries that breed Society's mightiest warriors, climbed the ranks, and waited patiently to unleash the revolution that will tear the hierarchy apart from within.

Amazing Conclusion
Revisado: 01-10-24
This trilogy was fantastic, and the final of the three, Morning Star, is, in my opinion, the very best. Amazing and satisfying conclusion. Highly recommended!

Historia
"Climate change is a hoax - and so is coronavirus." "Vaccines are bad for you." These days, many of our fellow citizens reject scientific expertise and prefer ideology to facts. They are not merely uninformed - they are misinformed. They cite cherry-picked evidence, rely on fake experts, and believe conspiracy theories. How can we get them to change their minds and accept the facts when they don't believe in facts? In this book, Lee McIntyre shows that anyone can fight back against science deniers, and argues that it's important to do so. Science denial can kill.

Discover magazine recently called Richard Dawkins "Darwin's Rottweiler" for his fierce and effective defense of evolution. Prospect magazine voted him among the top three public intellectuals in the world (along with Umberto Eco and Noam Chomsky). Now Dawkins turns his considerable intellect on religion, denouncing its faulty logic and the suffering it causes.

Bloody Great
Revisado: 06-06-21
I have listened to this audiobook three times now over the years. Richard Dawkins is always a pleasure to read or listen to. Many people criticize Dawkins for being philosophically untrained. He is a scientist! His knowledge regarding how the biological world is tremendous. Hence he approaches the question of God as a scientist would. There are many quotable gems in this book. There is a reason that this is one of, if not THE greatest selling atheist book ever published. It's bloody great. He and his wife narrate it perfectly.

Victoria McQueen has an uncanny knack for finding things: a misplaced bracelet, a missing photograph, answers to unanswerable questions. When she rides her bicycle over the rickety old covered bridge in the woods near her house, she always emerges in the places she needs to be. Vic doesn't tell anyone about her unusual ability, because she knows no one will believe her. She has trouble understanding it herself.

When Dr. Louis Creed takes a new job and moves his family to the idyllic, rural town of Ludlow, Maine, this new beginning seems too good to be true. Yet despite Ludlow's tranquility, there's an undercurrent of danger that lingers...like the graveyard in the woods near the Creeds' home, where generations of children have buried their beloved pets.

Classic Horror with Excellent Narration
Revisado: 09-27-19
I read this book 30 or more years ago and decided it was worth a revisit. It certainly was! I am glad I chose to do so with the audiobook version. The narrator does an amazing job of the characters. The book is creepier than I remembered, especially with this superb performance. Now I want to revisit all of King's classic horror novels. Highly recommended.

Historia
Once every year, Scoutmaster Tim Riggs leads a troop of boys into the Canadian wilderness for a weekend camping trip - a tradition as comforting and reliable as a good ghost story around a roaring bonfre. The boys are a tight-knit crew. There’s Kent, one of the most popular kids in school; Ephraim and Max, also well-liked and easygoing; then there’s Newt the nerd and Shelley the odd duck. For the most part, they all get along and are happy to be there - which makes Scoutmaster Tim’s job a little easier.

Brilliant Horror Fun
Revisado: 09-21-19
I am not usually a big fan of gore horror. However, maybe The Troop changes that for me. Great story, characters, and descriptive language. Several parts in the book made me uncomfortable in a compelling, can't-look-away fashion. Very visceral scenes were described ao well that I could see the gore and feel the unease, fear, hopelessness, and disgust. Perfect narrator for the book. I hope to hear his voice again. It works so well with horror. All in all, The Troop was a hell of a good time from beginning to end. Does that make me a sicko? I don't think so. If you at least enjoy some of your horror a bit on the slimey and gooey side, try The Troop! It was one of the best horror listens for me in awhile, and I love horror.

The mystics presented in this audiobook collectively paint an inspiring picture of Christ his saints. The various mystics herein presented are different in many ways, demonstrating that the Christian mystic does not suffer absolute dissolution of personality while attaining to divine union. These short talks deserve a wide listening audience.

Historia
The assumption that Jesus existed as a historical person has occasionally been questioned in the course of the last hundred years or so, but any doubts that have been raised have usually been put to rest in favor of imagining a blend of the historical, the mythical, and the theological in the surviving records of Jesus. Historian and philosopher Richard Carrier reexamines the whole question and finds compelling reasons to suspect the more daring assumption is correct.

Historia
Countless Christians, including scores of saints, have suffered the profound, pervasive sorrow that modern psychiatrists call depression. Then, as now, great faith and even fervent spiritual practices have generally failed to ease this wearying desolation of the soul. Catholic psychiatrist Aaron Kheriaty reviews the effective ways that have recently been devised to deal with this grave and sometimes deadly affliction - ways that are not only consistent with the teachings of the Church but even rooted in many of those teachings.

Very Helpful
Revisado: 03-28-17
As one who struggles with faith, doubt, hope, occasional nihilism, and many of the psychological, spiritual, and mental issues addressed in this book, I can certainly recommend this book. This is a balanced book, drawing upon both Christian wisdom and medical and scientific knowledge in order to address the malady of depression. It offers valuable insights into the causes and contributing factors of depression, and gives the sufferer much in the way of sound advice and encouragement for dealing with it. Catholics who suffer depression will get the most out of this book, but much it contains can be applied, I think, to people on other paths.

What is it like to be a preacher or rabbi who no longer believes in God? In this expanded and updated edition of their groundbreaking study, Daniel C. Dennett and Linda LaScola comprehensively and sensitively expose an inconvenient truth that religious institutions face in the new transparency of the information age - the phenomenon of clergy who no longer believe what they publicly preach.

Better Than Expected
Revisado: 11-27-16
I found much of this valuable. As someone who has long wrestled with faith and doubt, I found the personal stories of non-believing clergy to give me much to relate to. The pain and trauma of drastically changing worldviews is addressed, as well as the freedom and jubilation. The words of the clergy members were worth the credit of the book, although I probably could have lived without Dennett's sometimes smug and patronizing tone (but I get that from most of his works).
