I’ve read a few reviews calling this dark fantasy. I’d call it dark fantasy light. Something more of an entry level story into the genre, at best.
It was a decent story that really gets going towards the end. But definitely young adult.

Complete waste of time

I’ve listened to many, many fantasy books but dark fantasy is my favorite sub genre.
This book is pure convoluted drivel. The first book is the worst book I’ve ever read/listened to but I trudged through it because some say they loved it so I kept waiting for it to get better but It never came close. I listened to the second because some say it gets better but it doesn’t. He throws out what seems like hundreds of random names of characters, people, and places that are impossible to remember and just takes even more away from the book. I could go on and on about how much I detest this series but I’m not gonna waste one more second on this garbage.

I’ve listened to or read most of the books that avid fantasy readers would be familiar with. Now I’m in a constant search for something that grabs you and doesn’t let go and very rarely find it. This is it and it was awesome!! Almost not stop from beginning to end and such a damn good story. I hope the rest of the series is this good.

First two books; really good!

Total garbage

The first two books were good enough for me to me to listen to the third, but to be nice it was a severe disappointment. The main character wanders around the woods for 3/4 of the book doing basically nothing and the supporting characters were very lame. Total waste of time.
