What did you love best about Mr. Majestyk?

This book is timeless, and Frank Muller's wonderful voice is perfectly suited to Elmore Leonard's style and writing.

Have you listened to any of Frank Muller’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I have sought out books performed by the late great Frank Muller, and discovered other authors this way. Mr. Majestyk is a classic.

Any additional comments?

This is one of those special books I will listen to again sometime.

What did you love best about Long Time Lost?

The characters, and Simon Vance's narration.

What other book might you compare Long Time Lost to and why?

These books have the same "feel" as the Good Thief books.

What about Simon Vance’s performance did you like?

I love Simon's Vance's voice; he is one of the great narrators.

Would you consider the audio edition of Underground Airlines to be better than the print version?

The story was fascinating and the writing superb, but it's hard to imagine without William DeMeritt's narration.

What did you like best about this story?

The evolving complexity of Victor and the depiction of people struggling with their own limitations and motivations within the structure of a desperately flawed society. The story so closely mirrors our own society with a huge fundamental difference.

Any additional comments?

Underground Airlines is my favorite of audio books, a perfect package. I will read more of Ben Winters and seek out books narrated by William Demeritt.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

This story stuck with me for quite a while because of the characters and the the realistic, in-the-zone mood it created. Henry Strozier is my favorite narrator and Pete Hamill's writing was so personal and involved it makes me want to read more of his works.

What about Henry Strozier’s performance did you like?

Henry Strozier's voice is easy to listen to and adds realism to the reading.

This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

Young teens might not object to the amateurish writing, but the material is not appropriate for them.

Have you listened to any of Simon Vance’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Simon Vance is an excellent narrator, but even he can't save poor writing.

Any additional comments?

I purchased the Audible of this book because of my love for Simon Vance's delivery, which is excellent, as always. I have also enjoyed other Swedish crime fiction, particularly Henning Mankell. But Lackberg is no Mankell. Even a fine narrator cannot compensate for poor writing skills.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Anna

What about Mark Meadows’s performance did you like?

Mark Meadows was absolutely fabulous. There were many characters in the novel and he was able to assign a distinct voice to each one. I don't believe I would have enjoyed reading the book as much as I did listening to the story, because of the wonderful narration.

Would you consider the audio edition of The Missing to be better than the print version?

I feel that Henry Strozier's reading enhances an excellent and readable story.

What did you like best about this story?

The character Sam Simoneaux seems like a real person -- kind, gentle, flawed, a man with realistic ambitions and unfortunate luck who perseveres. All the characters in Mr. Gautreaux's story are unique and realistic, some more fleshed out than others. The story flows along with the ups and downs and drama of ordinary life in a difficult time in American history.

What about Henry Strozier’s performance did you like?

I seek out books read by Henry Strozier. His voice soothes my mind, as well as bringing characters to life. He paces a book perfectly so every word has the significance intended by the writer.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

A story of loss and living.

Any additional comments?

This is one of my favorite books read in the last several years. He is a wonderful Southern writer. I have shared with friends who also enjoyed it.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

This is the fifth book I've experienced by Henning Mankell, the first audiobook. The story is unique and subtle and poignant, strange as only real life can be. Henry Strozier has a voice that perfectly suits the main character. The story begins slowly and flatly to express the emptiness and desolation of this man's life, yet moves forward with the events that pull him back into the land of the living. I both laughed and cried while listening to Italian Shoes. I will listen to this again one day, with great pleasure.

What did you like best about this story?

The subtlety of this unique first-person story.

Which character – as performed by Henry Strozier – was your favorite?

The main character, this damaged, vulnerable and greatly flawed man.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The party for the dying Harriett. Beautiful.

Would you listen to Feast Day of Fools again? Why?

I would listen again to nearly anything read, for me, by Will Patton.

What about Will Patton’s performance did you like?

Will Patton gives individual voice to each character in the story, with just the right nuance and emphasis.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Mr. Burke is a master at varying the pace and rhythm of his narrative, so that you rock along enjoying the ambience and then are shocked and compelled when action and sometimes violence occurs.

Any additional comments?

The voice of the reader is a deal-breaker for any audiobook. Will Patton is the best there I've ever found.
