The Hero is an Ass! Anything the young heroine did was considered "flirting" and I found that supremely annoying. He went off on her at nearly every turn, thinking she was a flirt. I realize it's the era but so many other regency romances work around these more frustrating details of history.

I don't usually write bad reviews but, I couldn't finish this book. I was getting so uncomfortable and angry at the male lead that I couldn't keep going. I understand that in those times things progressed differently but I guess I'm too sensitive for this. The man is basically about to rape the young woman! I stopped there. I'd had enough...

The opening/prologue of this book was the best I've read/heard in a very long time. I was enamored of the heroine and was rooting for her from then on. The hero was equally interesting and loveable once we understood how he came to be who he came to be. The writing was witty and thoughtful. I haven't laughed out loud so much while reading/listening to a book in quite some time. Can't wait to read the rest of Lorret's work!

I don't usually leave reviews but I could not get thru the 1st book of the box set. The hero and heroine are very unlikeable. I understand that the time period only allows for certain types, but I cannot stand these. I hate I used my credit for this box set...😠

He's a Jerk

I know that these stories are set in a time when women had little or no choices and they just did things differently. Men were the overlords and got off on that power. That being said, Nicholas was such a jerk it was hard to finish the story. He few redeeming qualities as he was an admitted seducer of innocents and had anger management issues.
I also felt terrible for the woman who'd raised the child born from an affair between her husband and sister. And she had to endure her presence in her house. I hate that she treated the child with contempt but I also understood the feeling. There's a part of me that hopes she found some happiness somewhere.
