Historia
Lady Augusta Colebrook, “Gus,” is determinedly unmarried, bored by society life, and tired of being dismissed at the age of forty-two. She and her twin sister, Julia, who is grieving her dead betrothed, need a distraction. One soon presents itself: to rescue their friend’s goddaughter, Caroline, from her violent husband. The sisters set out to Caroline’s country estate with a plan, but their carriage is accosted by a highwayman. In the scuffle, Gus accidentally shoots and injures the ruffian, only to discover he is Lord Evan Belford, an acquaintance from their past.

Uneven
Revisado: 06-17-23
I wanted to like this novel, and it’s okay, but world building requires effort to create plausible characters living in 19th century England. It takes skill and discipline not to let the the novel become a hodge podge of 21st century sensibilities running riot in regency England. Each time the characters react as modern day people, the illusion is destroyed.

Historia
At first glance, the death of media mogul “Big Bill” Argosy appears to be suicide. But his widow, Laila, thinks otherwise. Because Big Bill made enemies - lots of them. And he’d rather fight to the death than take his own life. When the authorities refuse to investigate, Laila turns to the one person who can see connections in the universe where others can’t: Zip Ono, a young private investigator - and practicing Buddhist. Zip quickly learns that there’s no shortage of suspects who might very well want Argosy dead.

Unique premise
Revisado: 08-08-21
I had high hopes for the novel. The premise of a female Buddhist private detective was unique. The main character is likeable, but the story is uneven and preachy, and the characters are flawed and hard to care about. There’s also a jarring over use of vulgar language that disrupts the tone of the story.

Historia
When Douglas B. Douglas - leading light of the London theatre - premiers his new musical extravaganza, Blue Music, he is sure the packed house will be dazzled by the performance. What he couldn't predict is the death of his star, Brandon Baker, onstage in the middle of act two. Soon another member of the cast is found dead, and it seems to be a straightforward case of murder followed by suicide.

Charming vintage mystery
Revisado: 05-23-16
I enjoyed this vintage story. Lots of humor and humorous characters. I would read other books by this author.
