Historia
Winner of the Pulitzer Prize in 1974 and the culmination of a life's work, The Denial of Death is Ernest Becker's brilliant and impassioned answer to the "why" of human existence. In bold contrast to the predominant Freudian school of thought, Becker tackles the problem of the vital lie: man's refusal to acknowledge his own mortality. In doing so, he sheds new light on the nature of humanity and issues a call to life and its living that still resonates more than 30 years after its writing.

Every human should read.
Revisado: 02-05-25
This book addresses the age-old question of why we, as humans, act the way we do. It is a masterful blend of research and observation that culminates in an exploration of the question "why?" However, it does not provide an answer to the dilemma of what humanity should do to transcend the trauma of realizing that we are animals and that certain religious beliefs may be misguided. Perhaps someone else can tackle that question, but I have yet to find a satisfying answer myself. In the meantime, humanity will continue to grapple with existential dread and mental health issues as we cope with the reality that one day, we will cease to exist.

Historia
Trauma is a fact of life. Veterans and their families deal with the painful aftermath of combat; one in five Americans has been molested; one in four grew up with alcoholics; one in three couples have engaged in physical violence. Dr. Bessel van der Kolk, one of the world’s foremost experts on trauma, has spent more than three decades working with survivors. In The Body Keeps the Score, he uses recent scientific advances to show how trauma literally reshapes both body and brain, compromising sufferers’ capacities for pleasure, engagement, self-control, and trust.

Hate mongering and emotional manipulation
Revisado: 11-26-24
Radical leftist ideologies can incite anger and mobilize individuals toward action built on hate, just like the extreme right. Such pessimistic viewpoints often stem from individuals harboring deep-seated animosities. Cultivating critical thinking skills before engaging with such material is essential, as it may seek to instigate animosity toward leading ideologies. This literature contributes to the systemic problems we all face, particularly intolerance. It is crucial to recognize that a flawed system cannot be fixed; rather, it necessitates a comprehensive removal and a new form of government that promotes love and unity. Religion is the main culprit for bigotry and hate, and that wasn't highlighted in this book.

We were brainwashed by society into building our life on the unquestioned belief that without money, power, success, approval, romance, etc., we cannot be happy. Suppose there is a way of waking up from all that, where what is false and neurotic within you would drop with little or no effort on your part and your eyes would open to the reality of joy surrounding you. Here it is: Stop Fixing Yourself, the new book by Anthony De Mello that helps you rediscover the life you were meant to live.

Historia
Most people, including many policy makers, activists, scientists, and philosophers, have encouraged us to be more empathetic - to feel the pain and pleasure of others. Yale researcher and author Paul Bloom argues that this is a mistake. Far from leading us to improve the lives of others, empathy is a capricious and irrational emotion that appeals to our narrow prejudices. It muddles our judgment and often leads to cruelty. We are at our best when we are smart enough not to rely on it and draw upon a more distanced compassion.

Only listen if you have an open mind.
Revisado: 12-11-22
Alan Watts was a master teacher. His words spoken decades ago are still applicable in today's modern scientific world. A word of caution, people who believe that they are right all the time will hate him. You need an open mind to understand and learn. Critical thinking will help, but you need to scrutinize yourself, your own thoughts, feelings and especially beliefs, in order to get the best benefit from his teachings. If you have a closed mind you will hate this book. It's old recordings that are not always clearly recorded so be patient and understand that this work is not modern, but a classic piece of history preserved for your betterment today.

Diet to tickle your ears
Revisado: 11-24-21
Ramsey is obviously influenced by his farming past and doesn't look to scientifically scrutinise nise his own ideology. This book, like so many other diet books, adds to the white noise of confusion and disillusion of what is the healthiest human diet. He goes as far as to try and convince vegetarians and vegans that eating meat is essential despite the obvious fact that our bodies are not designed to digest meat. He fails to look at the actual needs of the human body and is more concerned with providing "proper nutrition" over health.

Historia
In the tradition of Bertrand Russell's Why I Am Not a Christian and Sam Harris' recent best-seller, The End of Faith, Christopher Hitchens makes the ultimate case against religion. With a close and erudite reading of the major religious texts, he documents the ways in which religion is a man-made wish, a cause of dangerous sexual repression, and a distortion of our origins in the cosmos.

Amen! Religion promotes ignorance and hate!
Revisado: 11-05-21
The way Mr Hitchens read this book was not easy to hear, however, the message is a work of art in itself. if reading this book makes you upset then it only proves his point that religion is harmful. Religion promotes hatred since they all believe that they are the "right" one. Religion needs to go; open your mind and think.
