Historia
Alice Wright marries handsome American Bennett Van Cleve hoping to escape her stifling life in England. But small-town Kentucky quickly proves equally claustrophobic, especially living alongside her overbearing father-in-law. So, when a call goes out for a team of women to deliver books as part of Eleanor Roosevelt’s new traveling library, Alice signs on enthusiastically. The leader, and soon Alice's greatest ally, is Margery, a smart-talking, self-sufficient woman who's never asked a man's permission for anything.

SWEPT ME IN
Revisado: 11-07-21
I started this book with skeptical thoughts I would get into it. But as I enders into the story I became all in. A great story of the strength of women in very challenging conditions who persevered and overcame many prejudices. The narration was excellent with distinction among all the different characters. You can visualize each person, the sentiment, and emotion conveying from their voice. I thoroughly enjoyed this story and wished it didn't have to end.

So much information!
Revisado: 07-20-19
The narrator seemed genuinely passionate about the material covered. Thus making it easier for the listener to get interested in the topics as well. Not all matters were completely detailed. However considering the enormous amount covered in these lectures in the given amount of time it is understandable that some aspects could not be explored in depth. Still I learned so many new concepts and attributes in biology. I thoroughly enjoyed this series and am glad I own it. I'm sure it will be listened to several more times and each time I'll glean more out of the material. I would recommend this lecture series to anyone interested in life and learning.

What is the nature of the material world? How does it work? What is the universe and how was it formed? What is life? Where do we come from and how did we evolve? How and why do we think? What does it mean to be human? How do we know? There are many different versions of our creation story. This book tells the version according to modern science. It is a unique account, starting at the Big Bang and travelling right up to the emergence of humans as conscious intelligent beings, 13.8 billion years later.

The book and content was awesome
Revisado: 08-28-18
I really enjoyed hearing about the origins on a purely scientific view. The only thing Thursday was a negative was that the narrator did not seem to know the material well and was just reading to us. It was noticeable by his mispronounciation of words and struggle with some all together.

This course chronicles the history of Earth and life on Earth from the point of view of the minerals that made it all happen. A major theme is how minerals and life coevolved, leading to the unprecedented mineral diversity on our world compared to the other planets in the solar system. Professor Hazen tells this epic story in 48 action-packed lectures that take you from the big bang to the formation of the solar system to the major milestones that marked the evolution of Earth and life.

Loved the book
Revisado: 05-28-18
Robert Hazen is amazing. He is almost as interesting a speaker as he is a scientist, mineraloligist, and writer. He offers the most up to date scientific theories and discoveries while giving the listener much food for thought. The overall takeaway is how interconnected the universe truly is. A book I will want to read again.

Who are we, and how did we get here? These are two of the most fundamental and far-reaching questions facing scientists and cosmologists alike and have rested at the center of human intellectual endeavor since its beginning. They are questions that stretch across numerous disciplines. Philosophy, theology, evolutionary biology, and mathematics are just some of the fields looking to explain the emergence of human life.

In their latest audiobook, Joe Kirschvink and Peter Ward will show that many of our most cherished beliefs about the evolution of life are wrong. Gathering and analyzing years of discoveries and research not yet widely known to the public, A New History of Life proposes a different origin of species than the one Darwin proposed, one which includes eight-foot-long centipedes, a frozen snowball Earth, and the seeds for life originating on Mars.

Here is the extraordinary story of the unfolding of life on Earth, told by Michael J. Benton, a world-renowned authority on biodiversity. Ranging over four billion years, Benton weaves together the latest findings on fossils, earth history, evolutionary biology, and many other fields to highlight the great leaps that enabled life to evolve from microbe to human - big breakthroughs that made whole new ways of life possible - including cell division and multicellularity, hard skeletons, the move to land, the origin of forests, the move to the air. He describes the mass extinctions, especially the Permian....

fascinating history
Revisado: 02-21-18
It was very easy to understand and follow for scientific informative literature. The author explains in layman terms so as any audience would be able to grasp the ideas put forth. I enjoyed it very much. The only issue would be it is not as updated with the most current information as a more recently published book may be.

The power of DNA and the information it holds is immense. Imagine using that information to discover our past. In our genomes, every one of us holds the history of our species - births, deaths, disease, war, famine, migration, and sex. We are much more than our DNA but our DNA holds the keys to our past.

The narrator did an ok job, a little lacking on enthusiasm for the material. For someone who keeps up with the sciences, some of the information did not seem 100% accurate. However I was moderately entertained.
