Hard to follow

This was the worst book by this author.
I very much enjoyed previous books by her. I expected a much more, high level of plot and execution of the story.
The solution was very much contrived. I was disappointed when the answer was presented like a magician who pulls a rabbit out of a hat.
There’s no enjoyment in discovering the answer to the mystery.

Historia
It gives us considerable pleasure to be able to offer to the public the “inside” record of those of former District Attorney Markham’s criminal cases in which Mr. Philo Vance figured so effectively. The true inwardness of these famous cases has never before been revealed by S. S. Van Dine, Mr. Vance’s lawyer and almost constant companion, being the only person who possessed a complete record of the facts and has only recently been permitted to make them public.

Good Story
Revisado: 10-08-24
The reader/narrator is rather terrible, especially at the beginning. He almost disregards the punctuation; running together the end of one sentence with the beginning of the next. Likewise commas and other punctuation which the author has deliberately placed there for good reasons. I had to slow down the reading to .85 to remove some of the irritation of listening.
The reader is a past news reader, perhaps this has something in it by way of explanation. Still, any good audio editor would have caught and corrected this.
I will avoid any further titles read by the reader.

Good book, poor narration
Revisado: 03-05-24
Very good content BUT…..
The reader has a clear voice and excellent diction… however….. the pacing and phrasing are terrible. So bad I looked up a few transcripts online to check the punctuation. I thought, perhaps, there might have been some peculiar pattern of punctuation that was throwing the performer off. No, he just phrases so awkwardly, often breaking sentences in such a confusing way that the meaning gets lost. You then have to pause and mentally reconstruct the sentence in a way that makes sense. This is so annoying and really detracts from the enjoyment of the listening experience.
Sorry, but I would recommend a collection of these excellent stories read by a better reader/performer.

A little hard to follow
Revisado: 09-17-21
The biggest drawback of this publication is that the reader has a very distinctive almost robotic quality to his presentation. Without specific nuanced inflections in his voice, you cannot determine which parts are more or less significant and therefore much of the meaning islost. The effect is similar to the removal of punctuation.

Historia
Published in instalments in 1859, The Woman in White is often considered to be one of the very first detective novels. Although critics weren’t impressed at the time, the novel proved to be a hit with the public and has since gone on to become one of the timeless classics of the Victorian era. Following the adventures of Walter Hartright, this is a story of sleuthing, inheritance, ghosts and mistaken identity and was recently the subject of a hit TV adaptation by the BBC.

Historia
Our brains do their best to help us out, but every so often they can be real assholes - having meltdowns, getting addicted to things, or shutting down completely at the worst possible moments. Your brain knows it's not good to do these things, but it can't help it sometimes - especially if it's obsessing about trauma it can't overcome. That's where this life-changing book comes in. With humor, patience, science, and lots of good-ole swearing, Dr. Faith explains what's going on in your skull, and talks you through the process of retraining your brain to respond appropriately....

Poor production values. Echoing vocals, audible turning of pages and hard to listen to.
Self congratulatory author, proves that not everyone should write a book just because they can.
Could benefit from deleting most of the vulgarity.
There are other much better books on this subject, in fact, most of them are better.
