Ross is very erudite!
Revisado: 05-02-22
His place descriptions truly evoke SoCal "back in the day" and his prose is smart and sophisticated. what more could you want from a detective novel?

excellent and so timely
Revisado: 12-24-21
Penny is so spot on with this story. At a time when our humanity has ebbed so low, she has made us think about who we really want to be. Eugenics comes and goes as a philosophy but love is ever present. Whatsoever we do for the least of us, is done for all- a poor paraphrase but sums up my view of our times! Thank you, Ms. Penny, for sharing your gifts with us.

Historia
Dismas Hardy knows something is amiss with his trusted secretary, Phyllis. She’s been behaving out of character and disappearing without notice. Dismas becomes even more concerned when he discovers Phyllis has been reluctantly playing host to her convict brother, a man just released from San Quentin after serving a 25-year sentence for armed robbery and attempted murder. Things take a shocking turn with Phyllis is suddenly arrested at work, accused of being an accessory to the murder of Hector Valdez, a coyote who’d been smuggling women into the country from El Salvador and Mexico.
