Historia
Environmental devastation and economic chaos have turned America into a land of horrifying depravity. Assault, theft, sexual abuse, slavery, and murder are commonplace. And a zealous, bigoted tyrant has won his way into the White House. Directly opposed is Lauren Olamina, founder of Earthseed - a new faith that teaches "God Is Change". Persecuted for "heathen" beliefs as much as for having a Black female leader, Earthseed's followers face a life-and-death struggle to preserve their vision.

A needed book
Revisado: 03-19-25
This one was harsh, familiar, raw. It is impossible to ignore the parrellels of this authors forecasts. But it is also impossible to ignore the hope, the light in the darkest moments of out humanity. This book is the argument to persist, to carry on when all is lost.

Historia
The Overstory unfolds in concentric rings of interlocking fable that range from antebellum New York to the late 20th-century Timber Wars of the Pacific Northwest and beyond. An air force loadmaster in the Vietnam War is shot out of the sky, then saved by falling into a banyan. An artist inherits 100 years of photographic portraits, all of the same doomed American chestnut. A hard-partying undergraduate in the late 1980s electrocutes herself, dies, and is sent back into life by creatures of air and light.

Incredible Story!
Revisado: 11-28-24
This was a powerful story and the author displays incredible talent for not only imagery and literary devices, but also gives us complex and amazing characters. Nature itself is an incredible character. The best way to change people's minds is truly through a good story, as this book is fond of saying. I cannot recommend it enough.

Annalee Newitz traces the way disinformation, propaganda, and violent threats have evolved from military weapons deployed against foreign adversaries into tools in domestic culture wars. Newitz delves into America's deep-rooted history with psychological operations, beginning with Benjamin Franklin's Revolutionary War-era fake newspaper and nineteenth-century wars on Indigenous nations, and reaching its apotheosis with the Cold War and twenty-first-century influence campaigns online.

A solid read.
Revisado: 11-19-24
It was a decent enough entry point to understanding the use of propaganda to create culture war. Pairs nicely with Manufacturing Consent and The Big Lie for understanding the history of propaganda and how capitalism pushed ideology.

Historia
While writers might disagree over showing versus telling or plotting versus pantsing, none would argue this: If you want to write strong fiction, you must make your readers feel. The reader's experience must be an emotional journey of its own, one as involving as your characters' struggles, discoveries, and triumphs are for you. That's where The Emotional Craft of Fiction comes in. Veteran literary agent and expert fiction instructor Donald Maass shows you how to use story to provoke a visceral and emotional experience in readers.

This a wondeful and very useful book. I took many of it's suggestions to heart and I honestly feel that it would help any writer improve their work.

Structured in three parts, each recounting a new expedition, there are some long-awaited answers here, to be sure, but also more questions, and profound new surprises. Absolution is a brilliant, beautiful, and ever-terrifying plunge into unique and fertile literary territory. It is the final word on one of the most provocative and popular speculative fiction series of our time.

Slow burn but worth the payoff

It's a classic horror where it's a slow burn with a gradual rising in tension. The last third of the book are riveting and unique. Worth a read if you like classic horror.

There is a world. One of endless night, surrounded by an even deeper darkness. Filled with nightmares come to life, twisted shapes that slink to windows and ease open doors, sliding across floors to look down on helpless faces. There is another world. A bright world, so bright it burns. Filled with stacked stones that call forth miracles, raised by callused hands that tremble in their work, drained with each stone lifted, settled, lifted again.

Everyone needs to love and be loved - even men. But to know love, men must be able to look at the ways that patriarchal culture keeps them from knowing themselves, from being in touch with their feelings, from loving. In The Will to Change, bell hooks gets to the heart of the matter and shows men how to express the emotions that are a fundamental part of who they are - whatever their age, marital status, ethnicity, or sexual orientation.

A book that should be standard reading for everyone. Hooks really demonstrates how our system hurts and disenfranchises men and how patriarchy takes away their freedom to be true authentic beings.

His goal was to throw off his titles and roles in order to explore the deepest aspects of his being.

I think that anyone could read this book and get something from it. But as a person who has practiced Buddhism for a number of years now I am sure there were things I picked up that made more sense because of my practice. Still I would recommend to anyone, even someone simply curious about the teachings of Buddhism.
