Nothing new
Revisado: 01-10-21
I'm trying to put myself back 5 years to decide if I would have thought this was an interesting book. the only interesting parts was at the end when she talked about open letters that she had written and had success with. otherwise I felt it was everything that the body positive movement States over and over

Historia
Born to survivalists in the mountains of Idaho, Tara Westover was seventeen the first time she set foot in a classroom. Her family was so isolated from mainstream society that there was no one to ensure the children received an education, and no one to intervene when one of Tara’s older brothers became violent. When another brother got himself into college, Tara decided to try a new kind of life. Her quest for knowledge transformed her, taking her over oceans and across continents, to Harvard and to Cambridge University.

A Harrowing Tale of Abuse That May Not Be Over.
Revisado: 12-31-18
This was difficult for me to read as I was just hoping she would break the cycle. Even in the end as she has accepted her decision, there's still an impulse toward the abusive family. This is a very interesting look at family and education. It contrasts with my views so sharply it is difficult to imagine we are nearly the same age with the same level of its education. Her struggles feel intense and important throughout the book.

Historia
Jazz Bashara is a criminal. Well, sort of. Life on Artemis, the first and only city on the moon, is tough if you're not a rich tourist or an eccentric billionaire. So smuggling in the occasional harmless bit of contraband barely counts, right? Not when you've got debts to pay and your job as a porter barely covers the rent. Everything changes when Jazz sees the chance to commit the perfect crime, with a reward too lucrative to turn down.

Cute, but not as good as the first three
Revisado: 05-20-16
This book was a cute quick read and if you liked the first ones, you'll want to keep reading, but Edelyn is no America. It is harder to hold your attention when the main character comes off as a whiny brat for most of the book.

Historia
Verily, the story Biff has to tell is a miraculous one, filled with remarkable journeys, magic, healings, kung fu, corpse reanimations, demons, and hot babes. Even the considerable wiles and devotion of the Savior's pal may not be enough to divert Joshua from his tragic destiny. But there's no one who loves Josh more (except maybe "Maggie," Mary of Magdalan) and Biff isn't about to let his extraordinary pal suffer and ascend without a fight.

Great satirical storytelling!
Revisado: 04-24-16
This book does a great job reimagining the story of the New Testament. at the same time it interweaves traditions of other world religions. It makes you wish this was the Gospel being taught.

At least it's over
Revisado: 04-17-16
This book is hard to read. It starts with an interesting concept (If you are a math nerd, like new), but never really finds a cohesive way to put the math and real world applications together. I didn't feel like any new mathematical ideas were presented, category theory was simplified too much and the references to baking were a stretch! The very end was the best part. I'm glad I finished the book, I wouldn't recommend it to anyone though.

After being completely enthralled with mr. penumbra's 24-hour bookstore, this was a fun backstory to go with it. Having just finished the original it was great to find many of the same characters within the story.

Clever story
Revisado: 03-25-16
What a clever story. A quick novel of fantasy. This book could have been stretched to separate books because you reach 3 small climaxes, but instead it is woven together quickly and brilliantly!

Cute Chick Lit
Revisado: 02-16-16
This book was cute, but certainly not the best of its genre. Being an abridged version didn't help it's cause either. It was hard to care about the characters because as soon as it got to the peak drama, it started to wrap up.
