Hellevir’s gift to raise the dead once thrust her into the center of a court filled with backstabbing and treason, where she became duty bound to protect Princess Sullivain, the sole heir to the kingdom’s throne and target of many rivals eager for the crown. But the more Hellevir risked to keep Sullivain alive, and the more deeply she fell in love with the princess, the greater the cost became—for Hellevir’s power can only be granted by the strange figure who rules the afterlife, and there is always a price to pay.

Got me at the end
Revisado: 02-26-25
I am not going to lie, this book scared me plot wise. I was so afraid it was trending in the direction of GoT with just how very dark and depressing it got. But by the end of it I was a crying mess wishing I could get more. If you’re a fan of books that will make you sit there in discomfort for a majority of the plot and unapologetically make you question your own morality system by the end of it then I cannot recommend this enough. Fans of Bly Manor or Last of Us Part 2 stans will understand this book. Those seeking cozy, feel good romantasys should probably steer clear.
The narration and prose are unfathomably good. I loved it in the first book just as much as I loved it in this one. The magic system, world, and setting are just as fascinating. The only downsides I can think of are how much I wanted to smack sense in to some of the characters and that at some points the pacing felt a bit off with slow repetitive moments and breakneck transitions.

I read this in January. And I fear it’s ruined me for the rest of the year because I’m not sure I’ll find a book I love more than this. 5/5 for well, everything. Humor, adventure, romance, narration, plot, characters. All I felt after reading it was that I wanted more. I really feared I’d be confused out of my mind with the reality changes but that never happened. Cannot recommend this book enough.

Beauty and the Beast Inspired
Revisado: 01-23-25
Wouldn’t call this a sapphic retelling but definitely an inspiration. Not going to lie the first 11 chapters were remarkably painful to get through. Very slow paced, very common in story. It picks up at 12 for sure and turned in to a very enjoyable book. Just wish they’d edited out 60% of the first chapters because it was very close to being a DNF.
Narration is great, characters are well thought out, and I will never forgive the author for the tin soldier.

Cabin of Red Flags
Revisado: 12-14-24
Really liked the other books from the author. But…this one was hard to get through. The amount of problematic red flags from every character was eyebrow raising. Aside from Alex, every other character was just immensely difficult to like. And even if Alex is more palatable she often comes across like the classic movie guy that can’t take no for an answer. And while there’s an attempt to have growth from some of the characters it doesn’t really happen until the last 30 minutes and is mostly just done in brief summarized paragraphs.
That being said the overall story isn’t terrible and Lori Prince is of course great in her narration. Just probably not a book I’d be revisiting in my lifetime.

If you’re a fan of Deadloch, you’ll be a fan of this book. It started out a bit slow but once the two leads started to interact the humor was amazing. I normally dislike age gap stories cause the power dynamic always feels icky. But this one actually did good with making it so there wasn’t much of any of that. Both the leads were strong and capable in their own right.

Humor At Its Best
Revisado: 11-29-24
As a medical professional I was delighted to have a main character who perfectly personified how I act when watching bad first aid in medical dramas.
Honestly didn’t know what to expect from this book. YA novels aren’t really my thing anymore since aging out of the genre years ago but this one was a pleasant surprise. The humor is spot on and I found myself laughing out loud at several parts. The characters are all interesting and well rounded. The plot kept me invested the whole time. And the narration was oh my god perfect. It’s been a while since I’ve found an audible where both narrators excelled at their job so well.
Yes, there’s some points in the book that are a bit predictable and a few plot lines weren’t wrapped as well as they could be and some parts felt rushed. But overall I loved this book and can’t help but give it 5 stars.

It Grows
Revisado: 09-01-24
Started this book being genuinely worried it would become a DNF. At first there just seemed to be little plot and I could tell the author was going more for humor to fill this void but the way the narrator delivered it just came across deadpan. I honestly fell asleep the first three nights I tried to get past the beginning chapters. So it was a pleasant surprise when I nearly pulled an all nighter on the 4th night just wanting to hear more.
It’s well worth it once the plot gets rolling and doesn’t let up. When this happens, the characters also start to become very charming as you get to know them. I went from being remarkably apathetic to the whole lot to being excited every time the MC interacted with the village bumpkins and rough adventurers. There is also some great queer rep in this book with the beginnings of a sapphic romance for the bi representing MC plus established romances for queer side characters.
The narrator does grow on you as well. Humor is still delivered roughly. I dunno if it’s the tone it’s delivered in or what but could definitely see some lines I’d laugh at if I’d been reading them vs what I heard while listening to them instead. But that’s really my only criticism about it. If audible allowed partial stars I would’ve removed the tiniest sliver rather than a whole one for it.
Overall I’m really glad I picked this one out and cannot wait for the second book’s audible release.

Good Book, Rough Narration
Revisado: 08-01-24
Had to finish this one as a physical read over and audible listen. Not sure what it was exactly about the narration but it was just awkward. I kept losing focus on what was happening since most of the book was read at the same cadence and tone. The story itself though is good, I recommend digesting it in some form.

So, here’s the thing: Cleo and her friends really, truly didn’t mean to steal this spaceship. They just wanted to know why, twenty years ago, the entire Providence crew vanished without a trace. But then the stupid dark matter engine started all on its own, and now these four twenty-somethings are en route to Proxima Centauri, unable to turn around, and being harangued by a snarky hologram that has the face and attitude of the ship’s missing captain, Billie.

Solidly Okay
Revisado: 07-16-24
I went in expecting a lot more humor given how the book’s synopsis reads. But there’s really not much at all so the marketing isn’t exactly on point. The characters are mostly alright. They spend a large amount of time bickering at the start in a way that gets frustrating given their age and supposed advanced degrees. It often felt like they were teenagers in a YA world and not adults approaching their 30’s. The plot itself is engaging but there’s weirdly a lack of mystery to it given the (spoiler) powers the MC obtains.(end spoiler) The narration is decent. There’s passion behind it but the deeper voiced characters all have the same sounding voice which can make it difficult sometimes to discern who is talking without the he said/they said part. Solid okay read for me. Satisfied I read it once but probably won’t be something I ever revisit again.

Mostly just stumbled upon this book and wound up binging it from the first page. The writing is phenomenal, the magic system is really cool, the characters are well rounded and feel so real. And the narration is phenomenal. Absolutely recommend this one.
