True Bernard Cornwell

From start to finish, a tale of intrigue, righteousness and perseverance in the name of justice. A commentary on the British aristocracy of the early 1800’s and the lives of the common people. Great tale as always!

Historia
Ryland Grace is the sole survivor on a desperate, last-chance mission - and if he fails, humanity and the Earth itself will perish. Except that right now, he doesn't know that. He can't even remember his own name, let alone the nature of his assignment or how to complete it. All he knows is that he's been asleep for a very, very long time. And he's just been awakened to find himself millions of miles from home, with nothing but two corpses for company.

Engrossing. Couldn't stop listening.
Revisado: 05-19-21
I haven't read a science fiction book in 30 years. I did see the movie "The Martian" and liked it, so I thought I would try this story. Wow! It captivated me from the first pages and I couldn't break myself away. Ray Porter's narration is brilliant. I kept picturing Tom Hanks because Porter's voice has the same timber and inflection. I could almost see the twinkle in his eyes as Rayland Grace made fun of himself. I find it hard to write a review without praising individual parts that were exceptional, but that would give away the twists in the story. The flashbacks flowed beautifully in the storyline informing where information was needed to explain what was happening and why. The constant use of scientific theory to resolve challenges was done so well that even a liberal arts major like me could understand the scenario.
So many books today are written following a staid formula that the reader can figure out the ending halfway through. Not the case here. This is the best book I have read (heard) in years.

One of Iggulden’s best ever!
Revisado: 01-15-21
Years ago I read Thucydides book on the Peloponnesian War. I thought that was very interesting. This book however is fascinating! Iggulden builds the story much like his Julius Caesar series but here the suspense keeps building all the way until the end. I was sad to see it finish. I am very much looking forward to the next in the series.

Historia
In the year 937, the new king of England, a grandson of Alfred the Great, readies himself to go to war in the north. His dream of a united kingdom of all England will stand or fall on one field - on the passage of a single day. At his side is the priest Dunstan of Glastonbury, full of ambition and wit (perhaps enough to damn his soul). His talents will take him from the villages of Wessex to the royal court, to the hills of Rome - from exile to exaltation.

Great story - beautifully narrated

John Curless performed masterfully and bright this wonderful tale to life. I was transported to medieval England and live Dunstan’s life with him.
