Historia
Hollows Bend, New Hampshire, is a picture-perfect New England town where weekend tourists flock to see fall leaves and eat breakfast at the Stairway Diner. The crime rate—zero—is a point of pride for Sheriff Ellie Pritchett. The day the stranger shows up is when the trouble starts. The sheriff and her deputy investigate the mysterious teenage girl. None of the locals can place her. She can’t—or won’t—answer any questions. She won’t even tell them her name.

I’ll finish it, but
Revisado: 09-21-24
This is not the warm, friendly James Patterson I’ve come to know through a couple of his series and even a few stand alone novels. This reminds me of reading a Stephen King novel.!Similar disjointed scenes, creepy, mechanical characters, and weird mix of fantasy and real life, And to top it off, there seems to be a social issues theme coming into play. I will finish it though, to find out plain and simple. WhoDunIt.

Poor timing
Revisado: 05-05-23
I haven’t finished the book yet. So far, it’s fine. Not as good as the early part of the series, but I’m committed to the women and the family interactions are cute. What is very bothersome about this book is the vivid violence of the opening scene, and how it resembled a news article I read less than 24 hours eaarlier. James Patterson and his team have several series to their names, and likely well lined bank accounts. And they couldn’t see clearly enough to delay the book release by a week or two to allow some absorption and adjustment to the latest real life casualty event in this country?! What happened to respect for the public, law enforcement and victims? My first impression will definitely taint the rest of my read of this book, and possibly future purchases. I’ll come back when someone gets a grand kid!

Revisado: 03-11-20
this book combines the setting, social issues, and texture of two of Grisham,s past bests. i am only a half hiur into the book and am so glad i decided to give it a try. it is nice to have old Grisham back grappling with the legal system and social Justice in avreal person tone.

Diana's twins are talking, and they are sooo cute! The story is engaging and interesting. Don't be discouraged by the (reactions to) the new narrator.

Historia
It began on New Year’s Eve. The sickness came on suddenly, and spread quickly. The fear spread even faster. Within weeks, everything people counted on began to fail them. The electrical grid sputtered; law and government collapsed - and more than half of the world’s population was decimated. Where there had been order, there was now chaos. And as the power of science and technology receded, magick rose up in its place.

Maybe if it were shorther...?
Revisado: 07-26-18
I got the point of this story about half-way through; and not much happens after that. It just kind of trudges along. Also, the characters are not very warm or endearing. Would have returned it; but the site didn't give me the option.

Historia
Join Michael Wigge as he immerses himself into fascinating subcultures, rides with Amish farmers in old-fashioned buggies, sleeps on the street with the homeless, and, with the help from alternative lifestylers, learns to nourish himself with flowers. Wigge had only three concerns during his travels: How do I get some food? How will I get to my next destination? Where can I sleep? …all without money! This unusual travel diary combines adventure with humor and contains surprising revelations about when money is really needed - and when it's not.

Any additional comments?
I found the cultural references and descriptions in this book interesting. What turned me off was the author's "Uber" Western attitude. Why would you agree to take a multicultural trip around the world, and then critique and complain about all the cultures you visit?! Deal, Dude! It's free! The bus-driver in Chile wouldn't keep driving that way if it weren't somewhat successful?! The author should have relaxed into his experiences a little more and focused on the learning aspect. He also took an overly professorial tone when he described Black jack, and Niagara Falls, in detail--like the educated people who read these types of books need those things VERY carefully described. I read Mr. Wigge's next book in the series , about bartering (actually before this one), and it is better.
