Historia
As Adolf Hitler and the Nazis seduced a nation, bullied a continent, and attempted to exterminate the Jews of Europe, a small number of dissidents and saboteurs worked to dismantle the Third Reich from the inside. One of these was Dietrich Bonhoeffer, a pastor and author. In this New York Times bestselling biography, Eric Metaxas takes both strands of Bonhoeffer's life—the theologian and the spy—and draws them together to tell a searing story of incredible moral courage in the face of monstrous evil.

"Look what a wonderful man is living on the earth"

I very much enjoyed listening to this book! I had trouble, especially at the beginning, with narrator's inability to correctly pronounce the name of the main character, Bonhoeffer. It got better, though he continued to struggle throughout the book, which was very irritating to me. Seems like a detail you would want to nail down before you began. Despite that niggling irritation, I enjoyed it very much. We need people like Dietrich Bonhoeffer today. So inspiring.

Historia
The weaver Silas Marner is a member of a small Calvinist congregation in Lantern Yard, a slum street in an unnamed city in Northern England in the early 19th century. He is falsely accused of stealing the congregation's funds, leaves the city in disgrace, and accumulates a small fortune in another town…only to lose it to theft. But he soon adopts an orphan child quite by accident. The exchange of one treasure for another is the heart of the story.

a book worth reading
Revisado: 07-23-20
Throughout the first three quarters of the story, the mood and the discussion of the characters enlighten us on the inner workings of Silas Marner's heart and mind. The mood is dark; some parts of the story feel difficult to slog through. Then, at the climax, the light comes out and the sun shines and everything is changed. It is a story of redemption. It is a social commentary on the darkness and narrowness of men's minds. The narrator is exceptional, bringing to life each character in an extraordinary way.
