Historia
For years, rumors of the "Marsh Girl" have haunted Barkley Cove, a quiet town on the North Carolina coast. So in late 1969, when handsome Chase Andrews is found dead, the locals immediately suspect Kya Clark, the so-called Marsh Girl. But Kya is not what they say. Sensitive and intelligent, she has survived for years alone in the marsh that she calls home, finding friends in the gulls and lessons in the sand.

Historia
Born into the Waorani tribe of Ecuador’s Amazon rainforest, Nemonte Nenquimo had a singular upbringing. She was taught about plant medicines, foraging, oral storytelling, and shamanism by her elders. She played barefoot in the forest until she was a teenager and left to study with an evangelical missionary group in the city. But after Nemonte’s ancestors began appearing in her dreams, pleading with her to return and embrace her own culture, she listened. Nemonte returned to the forest and traditional ways of life and became one of the most forceful voices in climate change activism.

I love this book!

The story is familiar to me because of Indigenous Shuar friends from Ecuador. This book is beautifully and respectfully written and perfectly read aloud. I highly recommend it

Historia
Frances Delaney is staring down the last days of her life. Looking back over her fifty-eight years with wit and no small amount of regret, she sees not the life she wanted but the one that happened. An idyllic childhood in the small Newfoundland fishing town of Safe Harbour was darkened by the loss of her father at sea, an unwanted pregnancy and a betrayal by her closest friend, Annie Malone. Frances and Annie were inseparable, and this rupture rocked Frances to the core.

Historia
A naturalist who spent months at a time living on her own among wild creatures in remote jungles, Sy Montgomery had always felt more comfortable with animals than with people. So she gladly opened her heart to a sick piglet who had been crowded away from nourishing meals by his stronger siblings. Yet Sy had no inkling that this piglet, later named Christopher Hogwood, would not only survive but flourish.

As someone who has been deeply attached to several great exemplars of the porcine persuasion, I highly recommend both ‘this book and the experiences supporting it. Do yourself a favor and listen to this book with your heart. You’ll enjoy it AND you’ll become a better person. Our planet needs more Sy Montgomerys and Christopher Hogwoods.

Historia
As a botanist and professor of plant ecology, Robin Wall Kimmerer has spent a career learning how to ask questions of nature using the tools of science. As a Potawatomi woman, she learned from elders, family, and history that the Potawatomi, as well as a majority of other cultures indigenous to this land, consider plants and animals to be our oldest teachers.

I love Braiding Sweet Grass
Revisado: 05-24-19
I am enamoured with this writer and her respect for nature and natural systems. I am honoured to be allowed into a mind educated in traditional Native American ways as well as mainstream education. Robin Wall Kimmerer's insightful observations and acutely honed descriptions of ancient and contemporary eco-systems create visual images that transport the reader/listener to distant scapes replete with the sounds, scents and flavours of the moment.
As much as I love this recording, I do not listen to it while driving as I find Professor Kimmerer's voice to be too soothing and hypnotic.....the perfect "listen" to recover from a day at work. Don't miss it!

Historia
In this award-winning Audible Studios production, Trevor Noah tells his wild coming-of-age tale during the twilight of apartheid in South Africa. It’s a story that begins with his mother throwing him from a moving van to save him from a potentially fatal dispute with gangsters, then follows the budding comedian’s path to self-discovery through episodes both poignant and comical.

Utterly delightful
Revisado: 05-24-19
Born a Crime is a brilliant piece of work. While I enjoyed the book, there is NOTHING like hearing Trevor Noah re-enact scenes in his inimitable accents. His writing, timing and delivery are flawless and I have listened from beginning to end 3 times. There is so much wisdom within Noah's perspective, use of language and insights into racism, religion and culture. I will never tire of listening to this unique and inspiring story!
