Historia
Elisabeth, an accomplished journalist and new mother, is struggling to adjust to life in a small town after nearly 20 years in New York City. Alone in the house with her infant son all day (and awake with him much of the night), she feels uneasy, adrift. She neglects her work, losing untold hours to her Brooklyn moms' Facebook group, her "influencer" sister's Instagram feed, and text messages with the best friend she never sees anymore. Enter Sam, a senior at the local women's college, whom Elisabeth hires to babysit.

Already Read It!
Revisado: 08-12-21
I rarely read a book twice. Started this book and then realized I'd already read it. Remembered some of the names and characters but couldn't remember how the book turned out. All I can think is that I wasn't impressed.

Hard to believe this could really happen
Revisado: 09-13-20
The best part of reading is learning about other cultures. I listened to this one twice (rare for me) because I felt like I missed a lot of “clues” the first time. It’s a complex story about a culture I know very little about. It’s political too. All countries have issues with politics.

Historia
Jane’s days at a Midwest insurance company are perfectly ordinary. She blends in well, unremarkably pretty in her floral-print dresses and extra efficient at her low-level job. She’s just the kind of woman middle manager Steven Hepsworth likes - meek, insecure, and willing to defer to a man. No one has any idea who Jane really is. Least of all Steven. But plain Jane is hiding something. And Steven’s bringing out the worst in her.

Not for me!
Revisado: 03-06-19
Purchased this book on whim for something to fill my time until the next credit arrives. It was a "Daily Deal". Had I paid more for it I probably would have returned it.
I enjoy books with interesting characters. I don't have to like them necessarily but I would like to know more about what makes them tick. I didn't like any of the characters in this book. The story is dark and I just could not wrap my head around it.

Historia
For years, rumors of the "Marsh Girl" have haunted Barkley Cove, a quiet town on the North Carolina coast. So in late 1969, when handsome Chase Andrews is found dead, the locals immediately suspect Kya Clark, the so-called Marsh Girl. But Kya is not what they say. Sensitive and intelligent, she has survived for years alone in the marsh that she calls home, finding friends in the gulls and lessons in the sand.

Best book I have read since "The Great Alone". Character development was fantastic. As I've mentioned in previous reviews, I love an interesting character. This book was full of them. Really surprised by the twist at the end.
I can't imagine who would not love this book, please enjoy!

Not sure how this was rated so high
Revisado: 02-24-19
I don't understand the enthusiasm for this book. I was not a fan. Read this as part of a reading group and had it not been for the group, I would probably have returned it halfway through.
Perhaps this is just not my style of book as everyone else in my reading group really enjoyed it. Just my opinion here.

Historia
Jack Reacher was alone, the way he liked it, soaking up the hot, electric New York City night, watching a man cross the street to a parked Mercedes and drive it away. The car contained one million dollars in ransom money because Edward Lane, the man who paid it, would do anything to get his family back.

What can I say, Lee Child is always great
Revisado: 02-24-19
As many Jack Reacher books as there are out there, I am still amazed at how new each book seems. The story lines are always fascinating. You kind of know what the end will be like early on in the book. However Lee Child leads you to the end in an expertise manner and then throws in a twist.
If you are Jack Reacher fan, you will love this book as well.

A Love Story for All
Revisado: 02-24-19
This book is a feel good book. That doesn't mean that there aren't sad moments, but the overall story redefines that a life well lived is possible for all. You can learn to love even those that have a hard time expressing their love for you. I was reminded to live and love without blame or regrets.
The characters were well developed and the story line flowed without confusion.
I think you will enjoy this book

Historia
Pete Banning was Clanton's favorite son, a returning war hero, the patriarch of a prominent family, a farmer, a father, a neighbor, and a faithful member of the Methodist church. Then one cool October morning in 1946, he rose early, drove into town, walked into the church, and calmly shot and killed the Reverend Dexter Bell.

Left me feeling a bit confused
Revisado: 02-24-19
I'm a huge fan of John Grisham and thought his last two books were just fair. This one really kept me interested, I couldn't wait to find out what happened. Really enjoyed the historical WWII tales in this book. Some of those tales I'd never heard about before. When I repeated them to others they had heard about such things happening during the war. Makes me want to learn more about Japan's invasion of the Philippines.
This book is very well written and the story was laid out well. I would recommend!

Wow! Loved this book
Revisado: 05-24-18
I haven't enjoyed a book like I did with this one in quite awhile. I usually listen to books on my commute and found myself listening to the book once I arrived home and lingered in the garage to her the next part. Lots of twists and turns which kept my interest throughout. All characters were interesting and scene descriptions were wonderful. The narrator did a great job as well. you will want to plan a visit to Alaska once you've finished this book. In summer of course, not in the rough winters of the wonderful State.

Historia
Mark, Todd, and Zola came to law school to change the world, to make it a better place. But now, as third-year students, these close friends realize they have been duped. They all borrowed heavily to attend a third-tier, for-profit law school so mediocre that its graduates rarely pass the bar exam, let alone get good jobs. And when they learn that their school is one of a chain owned by a shady New York hedge-fund operator who also happens to own a bank specializing in student loans, the three know they have been caught up in The Great Law School Scam.

It's just OK . . .
Revisado: 04-27-18
Better than Camino Island (don't bother trying to listen to this one) but not as good compared to other Grisham books. As other reviewers have said, the quality of Grisham books just isn't what they used to be. This book was very predictable, nothing surprising about how the story played out. Was actually hoping for a different outcome. Usually his books have a satisfying ending, like the main character who was wronged finding a way (legally) to get his just rewards.
On a positive note, I thought he did a great job of laying out the details of this legal case. I think I understood how all this could happen in real life.
Mr. Grisham, please take some more time between books and get back to your old writing style.
