Historia
Doctor Jack Troy was born and raised in Faha, but his responsibilities for the sick and his care for the dying mean he has always been set apart from the town. His eldest daughter, Ronnie, has grown up in her father’s shadow, and remains there, having missed one chance at love – and passed up another offer of marriage from an unsuitable man. But in the Advent season of 1962, as the town readies itself for Christmas, Ronnie and Doctor Troy’s lives are turned upside down when a baby is left in their care.

A wee bit of home!
Revisado: 02-18-25
I loved listening to this book rather than reading it because the writer’s accent added to it. My grandparents were from Ireland and spoke with the same accent and had some similar sayings, so it was like home! The story wrapped up nicely with the baby at midnight mass. Great Christmas book!

Historia
Relentless phone calls interrupt the peace of a warm August morning in Three Pines. Though the tiny Québec village is impossible to find on any map, someone has managed to track down Armand Gamache, head of homicide at the Sûreté, as he sits with his wife in their back garden. Reine-Marie watches with increasing unease as her husband refuses to pick up, though he clearly knows who is on the other end. When he finally answers, his rage shatters the calm of their quiet Sunday morning.

A lost story!
Revisado: 12-16-24
I have listened to numerous books from this series. This was the most difficult to follow. I appreciate the introduction of Mr. Brossard by Louise Penny and the attempt to bring in the French Canadian feeling to life. However, as many have already commented on, the characters were lost. I repeatedly had to go back to figure out the story.
There were lots of character in this story. The combination of the narrator’s reading and the storyline seemed disconnected at times, making it difficult to follow. Some of the story seemed forced. I didn’t like this one.

Imagination!
Revisado: 11-11-24
I thoroughly enjoyed listening to The 23rd Hero with Rebecca narrating it! The story line was incredibly imaginative. I loved that it started in Vancouver, BC, since I know the areas she referred to. The was impressed to consider how much research Rebecca must have done for the time travel experience. She did a great job on the voices so that I could recognize them throughout the story. The ending leads me to believe that there could be a sequel?!

A Tale for the Time Being
Revisado: 02-25-24
Loved listening to the author narrate her story. It’s one of the first books I’ve read that I think listening to it provided an essential dimension to the overall story. The novel itself was complex with many characters to keep track of. The aspect of physics integrated into the story was interesting. I wish I understood this aspect a bit more! Well done!
