This story was a little different in that it focused on other warriors aside from Beobrand. At first, I wasn’t sure I would like it, but ended up loving it and not being able to stop listening.

Book 7 of the series and I’m still on the edge of my seat! I finished it in a day. The narrator is the best.

I can’t stop listening to this series. So good, so exciting, it keeps my attention and I finish each book too quickly. I was initially not excited about this book because the sea voyage sounded like a big departure from previous books. It was so good I finished it in 2 days!

Every Book is Better than the last!
Revisado: 08-22-24
This series gets better with every book! I usually find stories like this repetitive and tiresome after a few books but every book is just as hard to put down as the last. The narrator is perfect. Starting the next one tomorrow!

Historia
They say behind every great man, there's a woman. In this case, there are three. Stella Crater, the judge's wife, is the picture of propriety draped in long pearls and the latest Chanel. Ritzi, a leggy showgirl with Broadway aspirations, thinks moonlighting in the judge's bed is the quickest way off the chorus line. Maria Simon, the dutiful maid, has the judge to thank for her husband's recent promotion to detective in the NYPD. Meanwhile, Crater is equally indebted to Tammany Hall leaders and the city's most notorious gangster, Owney "The Killer" Madden.

It was okay I guess
Revisado: 06-12-24
I love a mysterious period piece, but this drug on and on and the conclusion was not satisfying at all. It was hokey. This is my second book by this author. I gave her a second go because I liked the main character of the first book if not the big reveals of the story. For me, she often sacrifices believability for girl power. I wish history was more fair to women, too, but her interpretations of how a historical event may have gone are cheesy.

Historia
Maine, 1789: When the Kennebec River freezes, entombing a man in the ice, Martha Ballard is summoned to examine the body and determine cause of death. As a midwife and healer, she is privy to much of what goes on behind closed doors in Hallowell. Her diary is a record of every birth and death, crime and debacle that unfolds in the close-knit community. Months earlier, Martha documented the details of an alleged rape committed by two of the town’s most respected gentlemen—one of whom has now been found dead in the ice.

Pretty Good
Revisado: 06-07-24
Beautifully written and narrated. I really liked Martha Ballard and found her work interesting. The story kept my interest but was a little cheesy at the end and the villain became cartoonishly evil. I also think it’s worth mentioning that there’s a lot of rape in this book. She doesn’t go into detail but it happens a lot. Overall, I would recommend.

Great listen
Revisado: 01-30-24
I really enjoyed this book, but would rate it behind her book The Lake House. Like another review said, it really is a long episode of Downton Abbey. So good, but not the twists and turns I was expecting.

How the monarchs of England and Scotland met their deaths has been a wonderful mixture of violence, infections, overindulgence and occasional regicide. In Mortal Monarchs, medical historian Dr Suzie Edge examines 1,000 years of royal deaths to uncover the plots, accusations, rivalries and ever-present threat of poison that the kings and queens of old faced.

This was such an interesting listen! I usually prefer medieval history but found the discussions of the more recent monarchs deaths the most interesting. Great book!
