Historia
A man. His ex-girlfriend's cat. A sadistic game show unlike anything in the universe: a dungeon crawl where survival depends on killing your prey in the most entertaining way possible. In a flash, every human-erected construction on Earth - from Buckingham Palace to the tiniest of sheds - collapses in a heap, sinking into the ground. The buildings and all the people inside have all been atomized and transformed into the dungeon: an 18-level labyrinth filled with traps, monsters, and loot.

Hilarious & Improper (in a good way)
Revisado: 01-05-25
This was a very funny story about the end of the world, if it were a video game crossed with a dungeons & dragons game. The audio was amazing & greatly enhanced the story. Highly recommend!

Historia
Zack Lightman has never much cared for reality. He vastly prefers the countless science-fiction movies, books, and videogames he's spent his life consuming. And too often, he catches himself wishing that some fantastic, impossible, world-altering event could arrive to whisk him off on a grand spacefaring adventure.

Just OK
Revisado: 04-13-24
I would have enjoyed this more if I were a 12 year old gamer, I think.
I loved Ready Player One for it’s entertaining storyline & fun pop references. This one felt derivative and boring, with long detailed descriptions of video game battles and clunky, forced dialogue. I did really like Wil Wheaton’s narration, though.

One of Stephen King’s Best
Revisado: 07-30-23
It had been many years since I read Misery and when I found out my husband had never read it (!!) we got the audio to listen to on a recent road trip. I thoroughly enjoyed the audio-Annie Wilkes brought to life in all her horrific-ness. 5 stars!

So We’ll Done!
Revisado: 01-16-23
This book was like a cross between a modern-day Lord of the Flies & The Hunger Games. I listened to the audiobook & it was so well done…I could almost believe it had really happened. About what happened after an unprecedented hurricane hit & trapped several hundred employees at an amusement park in Florida, it was set up as a series of interviews with survivors and other key players. I was hanging on every word. Listening & trying to imagine the storm of circumstances, combined with a culture steeped in social media and violence and wondering if it could really, actually happen. It’s quite gory though, so be warned if you are faint of heart.

Dystopian/speculative fiction is one of my favorite genres & this was such a treat! Super imaginative & engaging, it’s a courtroom drama of the future with some great twists.

Historia
All Abby Rhodes wants is a chance to pursue her songwriting dreams. When she leaves her husband on Christmas Eve and puts their Missouri hometown in her rearview mirror, she heads straight to Nashville and onto the doorstep of her estranged father. But in typical Abby fashion, nothing goes as planned. Unemployed and alone, Abby lands a job waiting tables at her neighborhood dive bar. There she meets a local singer-songwriter with steel-grey eyes and a reputation that threatens to unlock Abby's small-town innocence.

Chasing Dreams In Nashville
Revisado: 01-30-22
4.5 stars
I really enjoyed this book! I knew I would like it because of the Nashville setting, but I also really found myself rooting for Abby, despite her questionable choices. After she leaves her husband (on Christmas Eve…without even leaving a *note*) Abby finds herself in Nashville, on her own for the first time in her life. Her dreams were too big for her tiny hometown & childhood sweetheart & she needed to see if she could make them come true. I didn’t especially like her for about the first half of the book, but she got under my skin & I really wanted her to succeed. It was a story of regrets & forgiveness & second chances, & I loved it.

Historia
What won't we try in our quest for perfect health, beauty, and the fountain of youth? Well, just imagine a time when doctors prescribed morphine for crying infants. When liquefied gold was touted as immortality in a glass. And when strychnine - yes, that strychnine, the one used in rat poison - was dosed like Viagra. Looking back with fascination, horror, and not a little dash of dark, knowing humor, Quackery recounts the lively, at times unbelievable, history of medical misfires and malpractices.

Great subject, average narration
Revisado: 01-28-21
Fascinating subject. Good use of humor to break up some dicey subject matter. Narrator had a peculiar speech pattern that was distracting at first, but I got used to it as the book went on.
