Historia
The Forerunner has decimated the Vanguard Islands in a surprise attack from the Trident warship. King Kade Long—seeing no alternative—accepts a peace deal, committing to a perilous mission with X, the “Immortal,” to activate weather-modification reactors at the poles. But as Kade and X set off, the fragile peace is threatened by Gran Jefe’s one-man guerrilla war against the psychopathic knight, General Jack. Meanwhile, halfway across the world, Michael and his family begin to settle into their new life in the Canary Islands, only to discover that it’s not the sanctuary they believed it was.

Brilliant end to a brilliant series
Revisado: 09-10-24
I've been a fan of this series from it's beginning. Nicholas Sansbury Smith has done a masterful job building a world that is terrifying and yet filled with characters that you grow to love very quickly. although it's clear that we will get more stories from this universe, this appears to be the end of the main storyline. It's been an incredible run and the series is very highly recommended.

Historia
Captain Axel Finn has spent his life running salvage missions with an alien crew and their war bot. This motley group has found refuge on his ship from their own tumultuous pasts. But little do any of them know, beneath his gentle demeanor, their steadfast captain is far from the peace following, adventure seeking giant of a man they all love. His pacifist ethos meant to safeguard them has edged them to the brink of financial ruin and drawn dangerous enemies.

a good listen
Revisado: 08-22-24
I enjoyed this book, but it's not NSS's best work, at least as judged by the first book in the series. It's creative, but the story seems to meander too much in the first half or more. It comes together at the end, but right when it's getting good, the book ends. I'm also not crazy about the dual readers. It contributes to a disconnectedness between story lines.
However, I'm now really curious to see where this goes. There is a lot of potential and NSS is among my favorite authors. So, I anticipate that this can only really be judged as a trilogy...

In a shocking betrayal, Captain Rolo has vaporized the supercarrier Immortal with a nuclear warhead, all but wiping out the Vanguard army. Little does he know that King Xavier and the surviving Hell Diver and Cazador teams from Brisbane were not aboard. In Panama, Outpost Gateway has suffered a very different disaster: attack by carnivorous vines. Director Rodger Mintel sent out a desperate SOS as the voracious coils ripped into the bunker.

Ratcheting up the intensity
Revisado: 03-16-23
Wow. This one is seriously tense. If you've made it through Hell Divers IX, you will know that our heroes are in serious trouble. In this installment, which is clearly not the end of things, the number of moments lacking raw emotion is close to zero. You will find that you simply cannot put it down... more so than any previous Hell Divers book.
In my opinion, this is the second best Hell Divers book, behind only Book VII.
I should add that as usual, RC Bray does an amazing job.

Historia
Two years after an attack brought down the electrical grid across the United States, the recovery effort is well underway. A new network of armored trains carry supplies and industrial equipment crucial to rebuilding the country. But along the rails, one area of America is still mired in darkness, violence, and danger. Some call it the Badlands. Others the Wild West. The government simply refers to it as the New Frontier.

Slow start, awesome follow through
Revisado: 10-27-22
I really enjoyed this one. It's a follow-up to the original Trackers series, which was fantastic. I'm a fan of Raven and his dog Creek. This book has them at the center, which was great. The only negative was that the stakes were unclear at the beginning. I initially had a hard time getting into it. But I stuck with it, trusting the authors, and the story continues to expand and eventually gets there. By half way through, I was solidly hooked, and now can't wait to get to book 2.

A Master Work
Revisado: 07-13-22
Hell Divers IX is one hell of a ride. In the entire Hell Divers book series, there have been two books that hit really hard (in a good way). These are books VII and now IX. Book IX is perhaps even more emotional, and is the most dramatic. Nicholas Sansbury Smith has outdone himself with this one.
The story continues from Book VIII, and Book X has already been announced. It is very clear that this is at least a 3 book arc. The last couple of chapters will take your breath away, and then leaves you with a cliffhanger that has the supernatural power to slow time between when you finish book IX and the availability of book X. It’s like being a kid 2 weeks before Christmas. Time just slows because it’s all just so good.
Nick has written many books at this point. I very much have enjoyed essentially all of them. They are all very much worthy of your time and money. But a few of them standout as master works. This book is one of them. So, if you’re already following the Hell Divers series, you simply cannot miss this one. If you haven’t read any of the Hell Divers books, do yourself a favor and get started!

Mob + civilization collapse + awesome
Revisado: 06-06-22
I don't usually like Mafia related stories but Nicholas Sansbury Smith does a fantastic job of weaving Mafia plus military plus the end of the world beautifully in this second part of a trilogy. I think that book two is better than book one. Book one follows the crash but book two is about various groups picking up the pieces and fighting for control. This second book is more compelling than the first and the first was excellent. Thumbs up for me on this series - highly recommended.

Revisado: 04-25-22
This is the finale of a three book series. The series is packed with excellent character development, interesting twists, and fantastic action. The finale is grand and exciting. Loved the series and it's end. 9/10. Highly recommended for anyone who loves post-apocalyptic stories, a bit of sci-fi, and military style action.

Tense follow-up that raises the bar
Revisado: 01-08-22
Outstanding follow-up. This book starts a general pattern of pairs. what I mean is that book 2 and 3 have one long story arc. Then 4 and 5 are paired. And then 6 and 7.
This book provides the story with a new villain that you want to throw out the launch tubes! Mr. Smith is particularly talented at crafting awesome characters... ones that you love and root for, others that are deliciously bad. These great characters are set over a grim backdrop of worldwide desperation and devastation.
It's hard to judge this book separately from book 3, so I'll just say that these books form a single narrative that keeps you coming back again and again. Binge worthy brilliance!
