Story about a band of freed slaves, sad but well told by a skilled author. Read or listen to this book. We should all know about what happened off the coast of Maine in the 20th century.

Ann Patchett and Meryl Streep is a win-win
Revisado: 10-17-23
Excellent story from a favorite author and narrated by an acclaimed actress. Tom Lake, the audio book is delivered straight from the kitchen of the once-famous actress, turned cherry farmer, as she narrates her own tale to her three adult daughters who have returned home during pandemic lockdown. A perfect example of how for the lucky ones, the return to quiet family life provided an opportunity for intimacy that was nearly lost.

Carrie Soto is fierce, and her determination to win at any cost has not made her popular. But by the time she retires from tennis, she is the best player the world has ever seen. She has shattered every record and claimed twenty Grand Slam titles. And if you ask Carrie, she is entitled to every one. Best for tennis fans
Revisado: 02-26-23
I love TJR and was expecting to love Carrie Soto but she is hard to love. The story might be just the thing for readers who love tennis. Audio version was entertaining with multiple voices to cover sportscasts as well as news coverage.

Nayeri tells his story like an American Scheherazade. Highly recommended audio book. Told from a child’s view but caution related to some underlying domestic violence.

Poignant coming of age for 15 and over
Revisado: 02-07-21
Well written and well-read story of adolescents who find friendship, then romantic love in this LGBT novel, set in 1980s El Paso. It’s not easy, even when you have pretty amazing parents, and they do have great parents. I loved these characters.

Revisado: 03-11-20
This story moves fast but can be spaced out over a few sessions without loosing any excitement in the dialogue. Would be a good one for family listening during a car trip, if we ever get to travel again. I will listen again. Loved the readers. Delightful!

Six too many characters?
Revisado: 03-14-19
This story took a while to gel in my opinion. None of the characters drew me in, unlike in Big Little Lies where the 3 central characters were compelling from the start and only got more interesting. Just ok.
