Yet another great installment. I like RC Bray cameo’ing himself by having Joe recall listening to an audiobook called “The Martian” - a book Bray won an Audie award for (which got replaced by another narrator later on due to some silly contract issue). Bray does yet another great job. I’m ready for the next book.

RC Bray is about the best storyteller in the business.. His modulation of different voices is superb, His pace in narration keeps up with the intensity of the action. This is a great story of soldiering in the future with mechs. There could be a little more back story on the characters. There are some loose ends in the interaction with Briggs’ new doctor and between the various pilots, including a woman, and each other. I can only hope there is some expansion in character depth in the next book.

Great Series. Derrick Straker is a bit of an “over-the-top” character who seems oblivious to obvious plot twists like Tashina. Spoiler alert, I think there could have been some awesome story turns by having Tashina as a sort of parasitic ruler of a the Mutuality government, with her clones controlling things at all levels. Narration is Audie winning. Single narrator with a plethora of voice intonations. Easily switches genders.

This was a humorous story but parents should know this story is about a blossoming male/male homosexual love affair between the parent of a foster home and a government child welfare inspector. One of the children in this foster home of magical beings is the son of the Antichrist and is “good” while the only Christian portrayed in the story is portrayed as bigoted and evil. If you can get past this (it is fantasy after all), you will find it touching and thought provoking - hitting on the theme of bigotry and changing minds one person at a time - also intending to raise awareness and perhaps give support to those who are different. You may or may not deem this story appropriate for your children depending on your views.

It would have been nice to have a little more history about the Spires and why they exist. The characters were enjoyable and very well fleshed out. Battle scenes were terrific. Ships would have been easier to imagine if they were described better. Madam Cavendish was given way too much power and then didn’t use it when the situation was obvious for her to use it, which Im glad for as it gave room for original thinking for the good guys. But this is all minor to how great this story was, how well it was performed and how I can wait for the next book! Great job Euan and great job as usual Jim Butcher.

Love this story and it’s prequel, “Zero”, great voice talent, though I find the voice of Zero grating. It’s an adult woman overacting the voice of a child and making the child sound like he’s 4 … and half duckling or something. But all that is forgiven by imagination and you quickly forget all that as the story sucks you and your kids into this great adventure (that teaches a little science as well).

Kludge is pronounced klooj. Otherwise perfect performance. I love how the comparisons to Skippy and the TV show, Frazier, were worked in. I’m not sure why RC Brey has stage fright when it comes to at least attempting to sing commonly known tunes.

I kept wondering throughout the novel if Ernest Cline was a Nom-de-plume for John Scalzi. The post collapse descriptions reminded me of Metatropolis and Wil Wheaton often narrates for Scalzi. Wil has become a powerful voice talent I hope to hear much more from him in the future. Excellent story with perfect narration.

Post apocalyptic airships carry the last remnants of humanity on a monster mutant dominated world. Great action. Gripping story telling talent with excellent use of a single voice to narrate the lines of scores of characters and give them Oscar winning performances. This would make a great movie series with grizzled old action heroes like those in the Expendables playing the Hell Divers... an elite team of hardened badasses who parachute into a radioactive monster ridden hell over and over to salvage parts for their ancient airship that's been keeping hundreds alive for generations. I've listened to both books in this series and it just gets better and better.

I have never listened to an audiobook series as entertaining, well narrated and gripping as this series and I've been an Audie Award Judge for 9 years now. Bray kicked it out of the park with "The Martian" but he kicks it out of orbit with this series. His Frazier Crane - like voice for the AI is not only spot on but side splittingly hilarious at times - to the point where if this is ever made into a movie, Kelsey Grammer is going to have to be in the cast as the AI voice against a Ben Afleck type Army Sergeant. What a blast and what a great ride this series is!
