Historia
The world outside has grown toxic, the view of it limited, talk of it forbidden. The remnants of humanity live underground in a single silo. But there are always those who hope, who dream. These are the dangerous people, the residents who infect others with their optimism. Their punishment is simple. They are given the very thing they want: They are allowed to go outside.

What I Was Missing
Revisado: 01-23-25
Since Vietnam science fiction tends to take place during wartime. I'm excited to read something that doesn't. Equally, the characters and story are interesting. The television show fails to show the time scale involved in climbing and descending the massive silos. but it's also enjoyable. Great job all around. the performer fell just short of effectively distinguishing the characters. they did a good job, but not an amazing one.

Historia
In the near future, a civil servant is offered the salary of her dreams and is, shortly afterward, told what project she’ll be working on. A recently established government ministry is gathering “expats” from across history to establish whether time travel is feasible—for the body, but also for the fabric of space-time.

a fanfic

Initially intriguing and containing some smile worthy phrases. Then the story shifts into a sexual fantasy about a historical figure. It would have been a much more impressive book without shoehorning the authors fantasies.

Medium quality in every way
Revisado: 05-06-24
There was some sound distortion in the first recording. Some misspoken words make me wonder if it was read by AI.
But what stood out most was the story The Proving Grounds. Fiction has no business being in a science fiction compilation.

Fairly good story Soft sci-fi
Revisado: 12-18-23
I prefer hard sci-fi so I had some difficulty relaxing when *magic* things push the story forward. You're asked to believe humans just developed actual machine sentience pretty much accidently in just a couple years.
However, once you relax and let the story carry you, it's a fairly good romp. the "battle" is kept to a minimum, which it refreshing. The antagonists are a little two dimensional. It's as if the writer doesn't believe people with evil intentions can be clever. I took the rating down one star due to that.
All that said, it's a good listen. I would recommend it to any sci-fi fan young adult or over.

Annoying narration, Okay story
Revisado: 08-06-23
I wanted a good time travel story that was heavy on science. I didn't get exactly what I was looking for. The story is just as heavy on hand waving as a Star Trek NG episode. But that's okay, I'm willing to forgo my request for the sake of a good story.
However.... the narration is like nails on a chalkboard. Imagine you have x seconds to speak each sentence. You look at the clock as you're speaking and realize you need to rush the last word. The narrator speaks normally, then rushes the last word of every single sentence. It's SO ANNOYING! I'll never buy another book narrated by this person.

Obvious Influence
Revisado: 07-18-23
I'm an aspiring writer, and sometimes I worry my influences will be too obvious. I no longer worry about that.
If you've read Expeditionary Force, then you've read this. The thing that sets this apart is that it's slightly more call of duty and gun pron. Which makes it slightly worse.
It wasn't terrible, I just found myself not really paying attention from time to time. The characters aren't that compelling. I didn't really care if any of them died. That said, I found I had a lot in common with the main character.

3-4 stars, can't decide.
Revisado: 07-11-23
I burned through the story quickly. it was pretty good. it kicks some of the tired tropes in favor of mixing them all in a blender.
The writer has a slight obsession for naked characters. I'm sure Freud would have something to say about it.
this is a LOT better than the first book in the infinite series but still lacks interesting plot twists. when the final moment arrives, I felt like the horror just wasn't there. The writer needs more Lovecraft and less Sir Arthur C Clarke.

How can you go wrong with a must read book for $2

Save yourself time and just watch old Dr Who.
Revisado: 07-11-23
I consume books, usually about 2 per week. This took me weeks. dry, boring, too much theremin. I thought it would go fast because you're basically listening to a radio broadcast. but it didn't.
There's very little intrigue. very little science fiction. The "plot" is obvious in the first few paragraphs.
seriously, just go watch old BnW Doctor Who. it's better than this by leagues.
