It was an entertaining story with some really humorous parts. It’s the second book I’ve read by this author and I plan to read more.

Not my cup of tea.
Revisado: 07-19-23
I’ve never been drawn to dramatized books and this is the reason why. The sound seemed to be all over the place, and I never really knew what kind of scene I was listening too. The music was heavy and tiresome and looong. And the characters were mostly just tiresome, to me. Probably won’t ever listen to one of these type of books again.

And, chafing at the restrictions of Bath society, Annis has to admit that at least Mr Oliver Carleton is never boring.

Another good Heyer
Revisado: 10-25-17
The story was typically good character studies with lovable people, the narration was overall great. But there was one part that caused me to lower my rating a little. There was a companion named Mrs. Farlow, I think, and the narrator felt the need to make her voice so obnoxious, that I actually found myself wincing when she was speaking. I kept thinking about rusty nails being dragged down a blackboard. I feel a bit bad saying that, but I think if you actually read the book, you wouldn't have narrated it in your mind quite like that. I listen to Georgette Heyer books over and over, but I won't listen to this one again. I'd still recommend it, because the story is worth it and maybe lit won't bother you. Oh, and the rest of the narration was just right.

Editorial problems
Revisado: 11-04-16
What did you love best about The Tommyknockers?
Engrossing characters that make you want to follow their lives and see what happens next.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Gard, of course.
What about Edward Herrmann’s performance did you like?
I loved his reading, and would gladly listen to him again. But I was saddened, as others were, that the editing was bad. I had read previous reviews to that effect, but I wanted to read the book bad enough to take a chance. Words were cut off at many of the ends of chapters. And once there was a point where I had to reload the entire book.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
Yes, but to say so, would give some of the plot away. But the very, very final encounter between Bobbi and Gard made me want to cry.
Any additional comments?
The editing errors were not enough to make me not recommend the book. I think you could get past those points. I just feel like the editing was a disservice to both customers who paid for the book, and the very excellent reading of Edward Hermann.

Historia
In a New York City fifty years in the future, Detective Eve Dallas tracks down those who break the law - including the ones sworn to uphold it. Eve Dallas and her partner, Peabody, are following up on a brutal, senseless crime - an elderly grocery owner killed by three stoned punks for nothing more than kicks and snacks. And for the first time, Peabody is primary detective on the case, which means she has to get used to a new level of authority and responsibility. Good thing she learned the ropes from a master like Eve. But after rounding up the perps, Peabody stumbles upon a much trickier situation.

One of her best!
Revisado: 03-06-11
The story seemed to me like it combined all the things I love most about the "In Death" series. All the interactions between characters, all the personality traits, all the triumphs and heartaches. And I love Susan Ericksen's narration. To me she IS the voice of Eve. I was marginally disappointed with the last one, but it feels like J.D. Robb is back in form with this one.

Really enjoyed it, but what's next?
Revisado: 09-11-10
I finished "Catching Fire" last week, knowing that "Mockingjay" was already out. I thought it used some of the same situations from "Hunger Games" and since I also loved that one, I really enjoyed this one, too. I'm not crazy about the relationship between Katniss, Peeta, and Gale, and someone has got to lose out somewhere, so I can't really imagine a happy or uplifting ending. But, I would recommend this book, and even with the low reviews I'll probably get the "Mockinjay", too.

Jacky Faber, Bloody Jack, is back, and this time, she's facing a situation far worse than a ship full of murderous pirates. Curse of the Blue Tattoo, L. A. Meyer's sequel to the enormous popular Bloody Jack, is just as bawdy and entertaining as the original.

I'm hooked
Revisado: 09-11-10
I read "Bloody Jack" awhile back and really enjoyed it. So I used a credit to get "Curse of the Blue Tattoo", not really sure if Meyer and Kellgren could maintain the interest. They did better than I could have thought. This is a keeper kind of book and since I'm a re-reader of books, I could easily see myself reading this one again and again. Today, I'm downloading book 3 because I just couldn't wait till my credits come out. I HAVE to see what happens next! That's my definition of a great book.

Historia
Fegan has been a "hard man" - an IRA killer in Northern Ireland. Now that peace has come, he is being haunted day and night by 12 ghosts: a mother and infant, a schoolboy, a butcher, an RUC constable, and seven other of his innocent victims. In order to appease them, he's going to have to kill the men who gave him orders. As he's working his way down the list, he encounters a woman who may offer him redemption; she has borne a child to an RUC officer and is an outsider too.

Violent but compelling
Revisado: 09-01-10
This was an impulse buy for me, but one I wouldn't change. You might like to know that the story is sadly violent and full of bad language. If those things bother you, you might consider something else. Even though I don't care for cursing and violence in my reading, I was so drawn to the character and his sad guilt and his attempts to balance the books. I really didn't know much about the Irish troubles, but had to go look some of it up. The story stays with me even weeks later. Narrator was great.
