The identity comes first: Evie Porter. Once she’s given a name and location by her mysterious boss, Mr. Smith, she learns everything there is to know about the town and the people in it. Then the mark: Ryan Sumner. The last piece of the puzzle is the job. Evie isn’t privy to Mr. Smith’s real identity, but she knows this job isn't like the others. Ryan has gotten under her skin, and she’s starting to envision a different sort of life for herself. But Evie can’t make any mistakes—especially after what happened last time.

Better than Most
Revisado: 06-03-24
I enjoyed the plot twists & turns. Every time I thought it I had it figured out, it changed. Narrator was excellent. I follow narrators more than authors. Poor narration can ruin even the best of books!

Kit Darling is a maid with a snooping problem. She’s the “invisible girl,” compelled to poke into her wealthy clients’ closely guarded lives. It’s a harmless hobby until Kit sees something she can’t unsee in the home of her brand-new clients: a secret so dark it could destroy the privileged couple expecting their first child. This makes Kit dangerous to the couple. In turn, it makes the couple—who might kill to keep their secret—dangerous to Kit.

A Twisty Read
Revisado: 01-20-24
I really enjoyed this book. I tend to follow narrators rather than writers. This title was not my usual type of story. I was pleasantly surprised. It was hard to put down.

Historia
When Lissa Yellow Bird was released from prison in 2009, she found her home, the Fort Berthold Indian Reservation in North Dakota, transformed by the Bakken oil boom. In her absence, the landscape had been altered beyond recognition, her tribal government swayed by corporate interests, and her community burdened by a surge in violence and addiction. Three years later, when Lissa learned that a young white oil worker, Kristopher “KC” Clarke, had disappeared from his reservation worksite, she became particularly concerned. No one knew where Clarke had gone.

Terrible narration
Revisado: 07-31-23
I was unable to finish this book because the narration was so horrible. so I don’t know if the narrator doesn’t know how to read or doesn’t know how to speak, but paused in bizarre places in the middle of sentences. It made it really hard to follow. The story may have been good, but I couldn’t get that far.

Who owns what is traditionally considered sacred? Can the Catholic Church legally conspire with the federal government to steal the most sacrosanct of Native American holy places? Holes in the Sky, the second in the series Zeb Hanks: Small Town Sheriff with Big Time Troubles, explores these questions in a clash of cultures mixed with mysterious deaths.

What happened to Zeb Hanks?
Revisado: 06-19-23
What a huge disappointment as the follow up to Native Blood! It seems as if everyone in the story has been hit with a stupid stick. They all have lost any sense of common understanding. Things are over explained, so much time is wasted on minute details of common knowledge. It appears that the targeted demographics has changed from adults to elementary. This might be suitable for a preteen. It was really hard to stay with it till the very end. I think they definitely need a whole new sheriff's department. These people couldn't find their ass from their elbow. I'm afraid to try the next one in the series.

Historia
The Bodies Left Behind is an epic cat-and-mouse chase, told nearly in real-time, and is filled with Deaver's patented twists and turns, where nothing is what it seems, and death lingers just around the next curve on a deserted path deep in the midnight forest.

The Worst!!
Revisado: 06-14-23
Some of the most disconnected writing I've ever experienced. I lasted until Chapter 5 but couldn't stand it any longer. I figured maybe it was off to a slow start and would clear up as it went on...but NO. The names of the character are so similar, you can't keep track of whos who and It jumps between multiple scenes with no warning. I almost never quit mid story but this was just too poorly written to continue on.

Slow Torture
Revisado: 09-03-22
OMG!! Unfortunately chose this for a 6 hour car ride. I immediately fell asleep and slept through the first 17 chapters. My husband, who is new to audiobooks wanted to keep listening. I wanted to jump out of the car. It was never ending boring unnecessary details. No development of the story. St chapter 29 we still don’t know the why of the story. Multiple teams fighting each other for reasons unknown to the reader. It was literally torture for me, an avid audiobook listener.
