Okay, so, Margo is Beck’s little brother’s ex. He’s a billionaire and flies to California to ask her to be his fake fiancée. They fly to New York where he lives and he takes her on a shopping spree. This takes 17 chapters. 17 chapters that should be two chapters. I really, really need to stop taking reading advice from TikTok. Because this isn’t the worst written thing I’ve ever read, but it’s boring af. 17 chapters of literally nothing. Spare yourself and skip this.

Performance by the voice actors is great!

I was excited about this book because someone told me it got them over their Fourth Wing/ACOTAR hangover. I will never accept another recommendation from that person because mother of all that is holy, this book is a trainwreck.

Boring and awful

The entire book is awful. Literally awful. Glyndon is so boring I can’t take it. Her only personality traits are depressed and whiny. Killian is okay. But why does the voice actor playing him sound like he’s fifty years old?

This book is torture to read. DNF.

I got stubborn and ended finishing. This book is boring. Glyn is possibly the most boring FMC I have read in years. She has zero personality. She’s depressed and whiny and then she’s just bland wallpaper.

Killian is supposedly so scary but hasn’t done anything scary since he was a child.

This book is pure torture to read. Two stars.

The story is super cute though. I’m loving it. It’s not great, but it’s a solid, cute read.

This book is stunning. If you haven’t read it yet, you’re missing out. But the narration is…an odd choice and pulls me out of the story sometimes. It’s not bad, well, it kind of is, but the story is still solid.

I am on chapter 18 and this is soooo boring. DNF?

Update: I definitely won’t finish this boring af book. I’m on chapter 25 and could not possibly be more bored out of my mind. I’m only listening until I go to bed and then I will not open it again. I tried. I really tried to finish this. I will not make it. Painfully boring. Do not buy this.

The voice actors are good. It’s the book that’s boring.

Update: I am now on chapter 18. There has been one good scene at a restaurant. I still dislike all the rest of the book. It’s so, so boring.

So, I’m on chapter 13 and this is the most boring thing I have read in forever. When does this stop being boring? It has all these good reviews and I’m so close to putting this down. I can’t even decide whether to keep reading or to DNF this book. I’m giving it one more chapter to stop being awful.

Omg why does she use that awful voice for Nico?

So, I don’t like the guy’s voice that does the Nico chapters. But I hate that the female voice actor thinks speaking through gritted teeth is a good way to do a man’s voice when she’s narrating Nico’s lines.

Also, the narrator obviously speaks Spanish, but is NOT Colombian and her Colombian accent is bad, but it was nice to hear an actual Latino accent. And her Spanish means she’s actually good at pronouncing the Italian words, except for giù, which she mangled. But Elena’s mom and nona should have had Italian accents and didn’t. 🤷🏻‍♀️

However, Elena’s voice is decent.

But overall, the narration in this book leaves A LOT to be desired.

Terrible.

If I see one more person rate this highly, I might scream. This book is just so painfully bad. This is the second Armentrout book I have picked up. The Harbinger was passable, though I still wouldn’t call it good. This book is a flaming dumpster fire. DNF’ing and I have no regrets about that in the least.

Also, this narrator is horrible. She read for Nesta’s book in the ACOTAR series. I returned that rather than listen to this narrator read.
