Historia
What happens when the President of the United States governs one Tweet at a time? When the elected leader of the free world may not have a firm grasp on the names of government agencies, much less an understanding of their intricate inner-workings? In the days following the 2016 inauguration, government personnel searched for answers that didn’t exist, while White House staff scoured halls for employees who would never be appointed.

Always a treat to read from Michael Lewis about the unsung heroes that help shape/support our society. Makes me proud to work in the public sector!

Historia
Power is changing. Private corner offices and management by decree are out, as is unquestioned trust in the government and media. These former pillars of traditional power have been replaced by networks of informed citizens who collectively wield more power over their personal lives, employers, and worlds than ever before. So how do you navigate this new landscape and come out on top? Adam Grant, Wharton organizational psychologist, went to the World Economic Forum in Davos, the epicenter of power, and sat down with thought leaders from around the world, to find out.

Good intro to power and management
Revisado: 01-13-22
I mean it's like a Ted Talk, which tend to be a bit up their own rear ends and skews heavily into the globalism, liberal perspective (I mean it's Davos, so fair enough). That said, these folks are in the positions they are in for a reason and it's a treat for them to provide insight on their views, how they came to their views. The shining parts are the end where the narrator provides tips to the reader at the end of each chapter.

There's a girl at their school who is always ill. She routinely arrives late, leaves early, or doesn't show up at all, and skips gym as a matter of course. She's pretty, and the boys take to whispering that she's a cloistered princess. As the self-described worst loser in her class soon finds out, they just don't know what a monster she is.

A bit rambling.
Revisado: 01-09-22
While not a bad story and highly recommend for Monigatari fans, I admit it was a bit rambling in the second story. I advise listening the second story while doing something else otherwise you'll fall asleep like I did!

Historia
In 1912, scientist Marie Curie spent two months on the British seaside at the home of Hertha Ayrton, an accomplished mathematician, inventor, and suffragette. At the time, Curie was in the throes of a scandal in France over her affair with Paul Langevin, which threatened to overshadow the accomplishment of her second Nobel Prize. Performed by Kate Mulgrew and Francesca Faridany at the Minetta Lane Theatre, this play by Lauren Gunderson is an ode to two remarkable women.

Great performance! Very humanizing of these brilliant, almost transcendent women! A great way to enjoy a Sunday morning hearing a piece of their story.

Historia
Written during the 1940s and early 1950s, when Baldwin was only in his twenties, the essays collected in Notes of a Native Son capture a view of Black life and Black thought at the dawn of the civil rights movement and as the movement slowly gained strength through the words of one of the most captivating essayists and foremost intellectuals of that era.

James Baldwin is brilliant
Revisado: 11-30-21
He provides a deep, personal racism-realism perspective that is sorely missing in this conservative VS. liberal exchange that monopolizes this country's "conversation" of race. Voice was rather boring though, far from a deal breaker! If anything, it kind of adds to the solumn, stark tone of Baldwin's work.

Historia
Launching into new territory that the author hadn’t mapped out when he embarked on the series, Nekomonogatari (White) tells the tale of heroine Tsubasa Hanekawa from her own perspective, in her own voice - if that can hold true for a damaged soul who, depending on who you’re asking, suffers from a split personality or a supernatural aberration.

Great story, few things though
Revisado: 03-29-20
I love Nisiosin work! His work is incredibly interesting how it uses the tropes and trappings of anime to tell an incredibly introspective story. I highly recieved all works by this author especially if you are a fan (even if ironically)of imported media from Japan. Notice I say imported media as this audiobook is clearly translated as it gets a bit "talky" even on simple things plus the voice actors and actresses clearly have a similar oration of dubbed anime. I enjoy it as I've grown up with such things, however I can understand those who dont have a tolerance for that "style" would genuinely struggle to enjoy this audio book.

Who understood the risk inherent in the assumption of ever-rising real-estate prices, a risk compounded daily by the creation of those arcane, artificial securities loosely based on piles of doubtful mortgages? Michael Lewis turns the inquiry on its head to create a fresh, character-driven narrative brimming with indignation and dark humor, a fitting sequel to his number-one best-selling Liar’s Poker.

Great book and fantastic insight
Revisado: 11-08-18
Provides fantastic and in depth insight into the 2007 financial crisis. Micheal Lewis will do his best to explain these financial concepts but doesn't pull his punches. The movie hardly scratches the surface with what the book covers.

This seems like an overview for the author's previous books (but it was less than a dollar). I like how straightforward he is regarding the subject matter. I recommend the author however pass on this book and get his others.

Historia
TV analysts and money managers would have you believe your finances are enormously complicated, and if you don't follow their guidance, you'll end up in the poorhouse. They're wrong. When University of Chicago professor Harold Pollack interviewed Helaine Olen, an award-winning financial journalist and the author of the best-selling Pound Foolish, he made an offhand suggestion: Everything you need to know about managing your money could fit on an index card.

Revisado: 10-12-18
Great advice and easy to follow along with. (Except the the insurance part but I dont think there is a way to make insurance simple.) Also mentions PDFs, which I believe is on the author's website (?) for reference which is cool to come back to. Great to listen to on the train ride home. Highly recommend for the very useful advice.
