Historia
On an otherwise ordinary morning in 1943, Helene Hannemann is preparing her five children for the day when the German police arrive at her home. Helene's worst fears come true when the police, under strict orders from the SS, demand that her children and husband, all of Romani heritage, be taken into custody. Comparitively poor
Revisado: 08-24-23
I had just finished listening to the Auschwitz Escape, which was engaging and detailed. Having come off of such a well written story, this one really isn't stacking up. It seems like it was written by a high school student trying to write a full story with only high level knowledge. Ultimately, I bailed on it, because it just wasn't very well done, and I regret that I bought this on sale so it can't be returned.

Good story, less good narration
Revisado: 07-31-23
I enjoyed the story, but the narration was lacking. Specifically, the enunciation of a significant portion of the story seemed unnatural - almost forced - to be diligent to enunciate every syllable, and sounded fairly robotic. That said, the story was interesting.

Ridiculous
Revisado: 04-18-23
If I could give this less than one star, I would. This is so staged, it's ridiculous, punctuated with tons of expletives to try to make each story somehow sound more meaningful. So everyone has an epiphany and their lives change within a day to a week? Hmmm, I don't think so. I understand that in an audiobook, you can't record full psych sessions, but it really comes off as exaggerated and fake. I'm only sorry that I bought this on a sale so it can't be returned.

It stays with you
Revisado: 02-19-23
This is the best book I've listened to in a very long time. It really pulls you in and all throughout, you're in the shoes of the characters. It's very well written and performed, and while it ran through a logical progression, I was sorry that the story ended.

Historia
On a whim, Grady Kendall applies to work as a live-in caretaker for a luxury property in Hawaiʻi, as far from his small-town Maine life as he can imagine. Within days he's flying out to an estate on remote Hokuloa Road, where he quickly uncovers a dark side to the island’s idyllic reputation: it has long been a place where people vanish without a trace. When a young woman from his flight becomes the next to disappear, Grady is determined—and soon desperate—to figure out what's happened to Jessie, and to all those staring out of the island’s “missing" posters.

Had to bail on this one
Revisado: 11-18-22
I really wanted to like this story, but there was nothing that I liked about it. The writing style and story development were both lacking, and ultimately, I gave up on it at a few hours in.

Ok at Best
Revisado: 11-04-22
I found myself poking holes in this story all the way through. Telling parts from the perspective of the dog was unique, but came off as somewhat ridiculous, and the way the dog was portrayed was an exercise in contradictions. All in all, I feel like this was eight and a half hours I'll never get back.

Won't listen to this author again
Revisado: 08-31-22
I gave this book a fair try, thinking it would get better. I finally had to bail on it. The story had potential, but is ultimately boring, mundane, and really not for me. I prefer a story that's hard to step away from, and this one was hard to pay attention to.

Historia
This is Reaper speaking. So begins an anonymous letter published in a Utah newspaper after a young couple is viciously murdered. Tooele County sheriff Elizabeth Gray leads the investigation into the double homicide, which is eerily reminiscent of a string of brutal killings years ago. When the letter leads detectives to yet another body, Gray calls on an old friend for help.

Historia
There was a time when the world was sweeter...when the women in Beaufort, North Carolina, wore dresses, and the men donned hats.... Every April, when the wind smells of both the sea and lilacs, Landon Carter remembers 1958, his last year at Beaufort High. Landon had dated a girl or two, and even once sworn that he'd been in love. Certainly the last person he thought he'd fall for was Jamie, the shy, almost ethereal daughter of the town's Baptist minister....
