Historia
We live in a world that’s obsessed with talent. We celebrate gifted students in school, natural athletes in sports, and child prodigies in music. But admiring people who start out with innate advantages leads us to overlook the distance we ourselves can travel. We underestimate the range of skills that we can learn and how good we can become. We can all improve at improving. And when opportunity doesn’t knock, there are ways to build a door.

Inspirational and Actionable
Revisado: 03-14-24
Dr. Grant has another winning book chock full of examples of how people from different times, places, and circumstances have unleashed their hidden potential and connects the meaningful elements from those situations that can be applied and help you achieve your growth goals. The vulnerability he and others show when recounting their journeys makes it easy to translate to anyone. Thank you for helping put things in a way to help us learn that we can’t always trust what our brains tell us, and steps we can take to get out of our own way. Highly recommend!!!

Historia
We need a fundamental shift in our values—a pivot in how we think, act, work, and connect. Despite what we’ve been told, the most critical mainspring of social change isn’t coalition building or problem analysis. It’s healing: deep, whole, and systemic, inside and out. Here, Shawn Ginwright, PhD, breaks down the common myths of social movements—a set of deeply ingrained beliefs that actually hold us back from healing and achieving sustainable systemic change.

Well-performed, and a MUST read for anyone who wants to be a part of the solution our World most desperately needs and deserves.
I’m hoping more people get to a place in their journey to seek knowledge and perspective such as Dr. Ginwright and so many others are bringing forward l, and like me, are moved to continue to learn and make an impact when and where you can - every little bit helps.
Highly recommend!!!

A summer with terminal patients wasn’t what Sonia had in mind when she signed up for her school’s nursing internship program. With no previous exposure to death or dying, Sonia joins the ragtag team at Tender Hands Hospice (Your Best Last Resort) and becomes the center of attention to the oddball nurses who work in end-of-life care.

Inspirational and Entertaining!
Revisado: 04-05-21
What an enjoyable read this was! I’ve had the benefit of multiple family situations where we’ve worked with Hospice and can’t praise them highly enough. I also have multiple family members in the medical field so this was like hearing some of their stories of their early experiences crossed with my own encounters with Hospice.
The performance of the book was well-balanced and really enhanced the overall story with the nuances in each character’s ‘voice’ coming to life in a meaningful way!
I laughed, I cried, and I completely sympathized with each family scenario encountered through this adventure.
I highly recommend this book!!!

Historia
Hillbilly Elegy is a passionate and personal analysis of a culture in crisis - that of white working-class Americans. The decline of this group, a demographic of our country that has been slowly disintegrating over 40 years, has been reported on with growing frequency and alarm but has never before been written about as searingly from the inside. J. D. Vance tells the true story of what a social, regional, and class decline feels like when you were born with it hung around your neck.

Genuine, vivid, and thought-provoking!
Revisado: 07-16-18
What a candid look at the true challenges being faced by children and families every day throughout the heart of the country. A refreshing break from the political noise with a heavy dose of reality, statistics, and ideas on how we might be able to make a difference in the lives of others if we just treat them with care and respect as all humans deserve. Loved it!!!!

Wow!
Revisado: 02-01-18
What a gripping, thought-provoking look at a little-known scar on the history of our country. It is unfathomable to even think of the horrors and heartbreak experienced by so many - and this was a well-written, beautifully performed tale to shine light on such a sad time. Highly recommend reading this!!!

Colin Hancock is giving his second chance his best shot. At 28, he's focused only on walking a straight line - getting his teaching degree, working out at the gym religiously, and avoiding all the places and people that proved so destructive in his earlier life. The last thing he's looking for is a serious relationship. But when Maria Sanchez crosses paths with him on a rainswept night in North Carolina, his plans are upended in a way that will rattle the foundations of his carefully structured life.

Another great book!!! I hope this one gets made into a movie as well. Great characters with well-thought-out backgrounds that interweave into a thrilling story. I loved the depth of detail on anger management, mental disorders, particularly anxiety, that are included in several of the characters' narratives.
The love story, friendships, and family members were lovely and vibrant interspersed throughout. I always appreciate a happy ending - keep them coming!!!
