Historia
Roger and Penny Scaggs seemed a poster couple for family values. Evangelical Christians living in booming Austin, Texas, in the mid-1990s, they were respected leaders in their church and community. As Roger diligently worked his way up the high-tech corporate ladder, Penny kept a pristine home and coached similarly devout young women on how to be perfect wives. But on a windy March evening, this godly woman met the devil head-on.

Great True Crime Book
Revisado: 04-12-23
Well-written. Fabulous narrator. The book gives lots of detail and background, which I enjoy, but is still engaging. There is some interesting history provided of societal trends impacting the case and the context. Solid true crime book. Enjoyed it thoroughly.

Good Narrator and Compelling Narrative
Revisado: 03-27-21
I am not sure what is with all the negative reviews about the narrator. Narration was high quality. Good information, family background, and flow of narrative. Some areas could have used more depth and details. Overall, good true crime.

Beautiful, Vivid Writing and Great Narration
Revisado: 01-09-21
The writing is beautiful and descriptive. Draws you into the feel and experience of the prairie. This story is haunting and heart wrenching. Getting to know the family members is moving. The narration is icing on the cake.

Historia
Pretty, smart, and pampered, Audrey Marie Hilley grew up in a small Alabama town believing she was entitled to the best of everything. But marriage to her high school sweetheart, a cushy secretarial job, and motherhood were not enough to satisfy Marie, and she soon began to act out in troubling ways. Only when her husband, Frank, became sick with a mysterious illness, did it seem that she was ready to put someone else's needs ahead of her own. The truth was far more disturbing.

Incredible Story

Enthralling, mind baffling story. The narration is good. Level of detail and how the story is woven together with twists and turns keeps it interesting all the way through.

Historia
Obsession, jealousy, lust, revenge.... There is nothing more dangerous than a passion that curdles and spills into murder. Love, when it goes wrong and spirals into violence, leads to the most chilling and tragic consequences. Death at the hands of a partner or ex-partner is the most common form of murder for women, far outnumbering the risk of death from a stranger. Obsessional sexual desire is the common thread through the stories in this book, tragic examples of how death can come at the hands of a once trusted and loved partner.

What? You don’t know Adam Wade? Here’s your chance! Adam Wade’s personal-yet-universal stories and vulnerable delivery have made him one of the most popular storytellers and comedians in the country on "story slam" platforms like The Moth and Comedy Central’s Whiplash. This Audible Original, performed on stage in front of a live audience, combines Wade’s greatest hits stories with entirely new material.

I laughed. I cried. I wished there was more.
Revisado: 03-22-20
The stories were compelling. Most of his life tidbits were highly relatable and about “normal” feelings and occurrences but with a slant of humor that makes them interesting and life lessons that make them inspiring. I could have listened to Adam Wade tell stories about his life for hours and hours more. Please write and record another book, Adam Wade!

Historia
Thomas and Jackie Hawks had big plans. The couple wanted to sell their retirement home - a hard-earned 55-foot yacht named Well Deserved - and move onto land to spend more time with family. So when a baby-faced buyer, Skylar Deleon, wanted to test drive the yacht, the Hawks were overjoyed. However, Skylar had an even more troubling future planned. But as the Hawks set sail with Skylar and two of his friends, not everyone will return. A compelling true crime, Vanished at Sea is a murder mystery that starts as a missing persons' case and quickly evolves into homicide.

Interesting all the way through
Revisado: 01-12-20
The only complaint I have is that wanted more. The narrative flowed well seamlessly adding in detail and backstory. There were no lulls, no parts that dragged. I love lots of intricate detail, and I could have used more in this book. However, a good amount of detail about the backgrounds of all the main players and their actions was present.
This narrator has grown on me over time. I used to think her voice carried too much tension. Now I appreciate more her inflection and seriousness that her reading lends to a serious topic.

Historia
Last Train to Memphis: The Rise of Elvis Presley is the first biography to go past that myth and present an Elvis beyond the legend. Based on hundreds of interviews and nearly a decade of research, it traces the evolution not just of the man but of the music and of the culture he left utterly transformed, creating a completely fresh portrait of Elvis and his world. This volume tracks the first 24 years of Elvis' life, covering his childhood, the stunning first recordings at Sun Records, and the early RCA hits.

Wonderful detail. Thus book was so interesting and nicely written. My favorite narrator read the book, which was a huge bonus, but the writing speaks for itself. I learned so much.

Our understanding of the American West has moved far beyond pop culture in recent years. The legendary people and events we associate with the Wild West - the last stand at the Alamo, the Battle of Little Bighorn, the exploits of Calamity Jane, the hardships of the Oregon Trail - are even more fascinating once the historical realities have been separated from the myths.

A bit dry
Revisado: 12-15-19
Some interesting parts but a bit dry. I like details and in depth information and even though this is long I feel like it doesn’t go deep enough. A lot of information is repeated in different lectures (I don’t want to hear one more time about the role of Buffalo Bill and his performances on shaping the myth of the American west or I will scream.). The flow is not great and topics are not well organized. Instead of topics flowing into one another with new information given and information related but previously covered glossed over, the old information is covered again. Instead of one flowing course, it seems more of a collection of individual lectures or essays.

Historia
From the break-out star of BuzzFeed and the People's Choice Award-winning comedian comes a collection of hilariously anguished essays chronicling awful moments from his life so far, the humiliations of being an adult, and other little indignities. Matt Bellassai has no idea what he's doing. Well, to be fair, he did become semi-Internet famous by getting drunk at work, making him a socially-acceptable - nay - professional alcoholic. He's got some things figured out. But the rest is all just a terrible, disgusting mess.

So funny.
Revisado: 12-06-19
I laughed out loud by myself many times while listening to this book. I even laughed until I cried during one part. It makes it that much better to hear the book read in Matt’s expressive and irreverent voice. The stories he tells about his life are interesting and flow well.
