Historia
Why are humans the only species to have escaped—only very recently—the subsistence trap, allowing us to enjoy a standard of living that vastly exceeds all others? And why have we progressed so unequally around the world, resulting in the great disparities between nations that exist today? Galor’s gripping narrative explains how technology, population size, and adaptation led to a stunning “phase change” in the human story a mere two hundred years ago.

Great read on details of this praise of innovation and technology.
try some facts from "To govern the globe" by Alfred McCoy . get real history to add to theory. 1500 to 1850 all material value came from the SEA. SLAVERY AND MERCANTILE EXPLOITATION of the whole earth is where mountains of the treasures of the world that funded innovation and industrial disease .
The second book I couldn't read. The author would do well to brush up, simply having the knowledge of history to frame his stories more realisticly.

Historia
Robert Sapolsky’s Behave, his now classic account of why humans do good and why they do bad, pointed toward an unsettling conclusion: We may not grasp the precise marriage of nature and nurture that creates the physics and chemistry at the base of human behavior, but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist. Now, in Determined, Sapolsky takes his argument all the way, mounting a brilliant (and in his inimitable way, delightful) full-frontal assault on the pleasant fantasy that there is some separate self telling our biology what to do.

Where only the lonely can go
Revisado: 12-10-23
Bob is unsurpassed in wording down the exact final particle of explanation. Great Course, books, he's the best. The Knowing of an author enhances understandings. My author friend, needs his underlying depression addressed by the best neurologist active in brain wave scanning humanitiy has. Lost are friends calling, gone now, unanswered then. If I am overreacting..., no problem. Wires in his animals skull. Brothers you can spare the time. As Mr. Sapolsky is not afraid to "lick the armpit of truth" where only the lonely can go.

I loved this book
Revisado: 09-08-23
Pirates seeded the genetic world of today. Recent, superior authors of this thinking, and I, are so pleased with this all encompassing history. Many books should come from this one. I have not found a similar full account.
Sea economics on earth in Charles McCoy's, To Govern the Globe, is elegant, if sparse. World Orders and Empires become clear in his book. Per Mr McCoy up until recently a book using the word EMPIRE wouldn't be published in USA...Dulles brothers no doubt.

Historia
In this sweeping and insightful history, Henry Kissinger turns for the first time at book length to a country he has known intimately for decades and whose modern relations with the West he helped shape. On China illuminates the inner workings of Chinese diplomacy during such pivotal events as the initial encounters between China and tight line modern European powers, the formation and breakdown of the Sino-Soviet alliance, the Korean War, and Richard Nixon’s historic trip to Beijing.

I loved this diplomat info! The old Swashbuckler
Revisado: 08-17-23
A timing of info. A nod to Nixon's geo-political sense and, tho it pains my heart, to a sentence (that's all I'll give) by John Foster Dulles, the great deceiver/criminal.
Somehow this story is all new to me. The Confucianism, shunning war and more. Seeing Henry as Xi's guest speaking so well a few weeks ago (100 years old, sounding REAL GOOD), seeing the human call for prosperity as overtaking the Nation State's call to war. Long standing alliance against the Polar bear and more...,, like shared goals, strategic threats i.e. No War. From early in Chinese history they Malcolm Gladwell everything.
It is what I see, Chinese..., the new capitalist, without a war machine, so watch out folks, you gotta compete !!
The narration was informative and a streamlined enhancement.

In It Did Not Start with JFK, author and researcher Walter Herbst examines the decades before Kennedy’s presidency, and how understanding the “why” behind this right-wing group’s interest in removing Kennedy from power is the key to unraveling the assassination riddle. And once "why" is understood, who was responsible becomes clear.

Two men fled, and investigators soon discovered who they had killed: Giuseppe Petrosino, the legendary American detective whose exploits in New York were celebrated even in Italy. Veteran New York City journalist and historian Paul Moses explores the lives of the nationally celebrated detectives who followed in the slain Petrosino's footsteps as leaders of the New York City investigative squad: Anthony Vachris, Charles Corrao, and Michael Fiaschetti.
