Historia
July 1910. Lady Hardcastle and her tireless sidekick Flo have finally embarked on a long-overdue seaside break. But just as they’re wavering between ice creams and donkey rides, their fellow guests start to go missing - and the duo find themselves with a hysterical hotel manager and a case to solve. I love this series
Revisado: 11-27-19
I like how the story leisurely moves forward but rarely predictably. The characters are engaging and the dialogue witty. The narrator brings the book to life. I’ve listened to all the series and eagerly wait for the next one.

Historia
January 1910. A journalist has been killed in a suspicious blaze. Everything points to a group of suffragettes, but the apparent culprit insists she is innocent. When Lady Hardcastle receives a letter from a suffragette requesting her urgent help, the retired spy turned sleuth knows only she stands between an accused young woman and the gallows. Evidence at the scene makes Lizzie Worrel’s innocence difficult to believe, and with the police treating it as an open-and-shut case of arson, Lady Hardcastle faces a barrage of resistance as she tries to dig out the truth.

This series is THE BEST! It’s a breezy delightful Cosy Mystery. The characters are lovable, the plot is never too predictable, and the narration is perfect.

Historia
Late October 1909, and the season of ghouls and things that go bump in the night has descended on the village of Littleton Cotterell. Lady Hardcastle and her trusted lady’s maid, Florence, find themselves hosting a colorful cast of actors whose spooky moving picture, The Witch’s Downfall, is being shown to mark Halloween. But things take a macabre turn when the first night’s screening ends with a mysterious murder, and the second night with another. One by one the actors turn up dead in ways that eerily echo their film.

I LOVE this series
Revisado: 01-30-19
This series is so lively, unpredictable, and fun! It’s the perfect incentive to get on the treadmill so I can listen for an undisturbed length of time. The narrator is wonderful! I enjoy how effortlessly she shifts among the different voices.

Historia
Jason Fitger is a beleaguered professor of creative writing and literature at Payne University, a small and not very distinguished liberal arts college in the midwest. His department is facing draconian cuts and squalid quarters, while one floor above them the Economics Department is getting lavishly remodeled offices. His once-promising writing career is in the doldrums, as is his romantic life, in part as the result of his unwise use of his private affairs for his novels.

The story is clever, funny, intelligent, delightful. I didn't want it to end. The narrator's voice captured the tone perfectly. This is a book to listen to rather than read, and I recommend it wholeheartedly.

In this coming of age story, Dodie Smith introduces the visionary and eccentric character of seventeen-year-old Cassandra Mortmain. The youngest daughter in a family of impoverished artists, it is her imagination and writing that takes us away from the ramshackle old English castle where they live, and towards an intriguing tale of husband-hunting and light-hearted sibling rivalry.

We are in the hands of a master story teller who sets up a compelling story arc that draws us forward with characters whose fate we root for. The language is poetic and thoughtful. The first and final chapters are sheer genius.

September 1909, and Lady Hardcastle and her maid, Florence, have been invited to Lord Riddlethorpe’s country estate for a week of motor racing and parties. They both agree that it sounds like a perfectly charming holiday. But when one of the drivers dies in a crash during the very first race, they discover that what seemed like an uncharacteristic error in judgement may have a more sinister explanation...

Volume problem
Revisado: 09-29-17
I enjoyed the story and the reader has the right voice for it. But I was constantly frustrated by the changes in volume. The reader lowers his voice to a whisper at times. If my volume is high enough to hear that, then the dialogue becomes way too loud.
