Even better than I expected

I enjoyed the way the book was structured, as well as Julia Roberts and Riley Keough's narrations. I was moved to tears during some parts and laughed outloud during others. They were such a broken family, but had so much love.

The story style reminds me of the Martian but this is a completely different story. I enjoyed all the sub-plots and am slightly sorry that there is not a second book. Like the Martian, I will listen to this many times.

A great new series to listen to over and over agai

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
I loved The Martian in part because of the story and in part because of Watney's sense of humor and personality. This book has that same personality.
Who was your favorite character and why?
It's Bishops story but Skippy hooked me. His personality won me over. He could be his own series of books.
Which character – as performed by R.C. Bray – was your favorite?
Back to Skippy again, his dry wit reminded me of actress Deborah Foreman.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
Well, I laughed and that's extreme for me. I loved Bishops discussion over naming Skippy.
Any additional comments?
I have become a loyal R.C. Bray fan. A book about Skippy before he met Bishop would be fun.

This book and Star Wars: Tarkin are great lead in stories that provide history and explain personalities. Learning about Palpatine's youth, development and apprenticeship help provide a good visual of the man and his actions in the early books. I like that it lead us right into the early moments of Episode 1.

Overall A Good Book

I liked the overall story, the struggles at COB Bedrock were believable and interesting. The feminism struggle was too strong for the overall story it got old fast. The narrative wasted on worrying about getting gang raped could have been used for better local interaction stories. I hope a second book comes out on this storyline.

An Interesting Short Story

I am not a zombie reader usually but I was drawn to this by the narrator. It certainly caught my interest! The addition entry chapters of Book-1 was a nice treat and I liked that it referenced back to this story. It makes me feel like I got in at the very start.
