Historia
The summer that Patty Bergen turns twelve is a summer that will haunt her forever. When her small hometown in Arkansas becomes the site of a camp housing German prisoners during World War II, Patty learns what it means to open her heart. Even though she’s Jewish, she begins to see a prison escapee, Anton, not as a Nazi, but as a lonely, frightened young man. As their gentle friendship blossoms, Patty experiences a kind of love she never felt from her abusive father or her distant mother.

Historia
Are you struggling with attention problems, mood swings, food obsession, or depression? Whatever the issue, you have far more control over your thoughts, feelings, and behavior than you realize. Although medications may bring some relief, in Change Your Diet, Change Your Mind, Dr. Georgia Ede reveals that the most powerful way to change brain chemistry is with food, because that’s where brain chemicals come from in the first place. In this provocative, illuminating guide, Dr. Ede explains why nearly everything we think we know about brain-healthy diets is wrong.

Never linked mental illness and nutrition together before this book.
Revisado: 09-09-24
Thank you Dr. Ede for showing me the connection between having a mental illness and the effect nutrition has on our brains. After dealing with depression, anxiety, panic disorder and other symptoms for over 30 years, not once did my doctor, therapist, psychiatrist ever mention that my diet may have something to do with it. This is valuable information that really makes a difference. I have been doing a ketogenic diet for a while now and all the above symptoms have been alleviated. I recommend this book for anyone who deals with mental illness. Thank you again Dr. Ede.

Historia
In January 2023, bestselling author Johann Hari started to inject himself once a week with Ozempic, the diabetes drug that produces significant weight loss. He wasn’t alone—credible predictions suggest that in two years, a quarter of the U.S. population will be taking this class of drug. Proponents say that this is a biological solution to a biological problem. While 95 percent of diets fail, the average person taking one of the new drugs will lose a quarter of their body weight in six months, and keep it off for as long as they take it.

A moving read about the obesity crisis.
Revisado: 07-23-24
I really enjoyed reading this book. As an obese person my entire adult life, I have struggled with every issue brought up in this book. The author really brings a meaningful perspective of the difficulties in being obese in an obesigenic world. I have been given a brief opportunity to use the new weight loss drugs but will not be able to keep using them because of its cost and availability. It really is a game changer when you take out appetite when trying to lose weight. I know I need to use this opportunity to improve the diet I have and accept the fact that I will not have access to this medication in a few months. It is up to me to make it right. Thank you, Mr. Hari for your words.

Excellent information on calories in versus calories out
Revisado: 04-05-24
After being obese for over thirty years, I have learned recently about the role of insulin and carbohydrates in making us fat. This book gave great insight into why society fixates on low fat instead of low carb and how this fixation which is completely ingrained in my psyche has caused so many to fail diet after diet. I look forward to using this information as I continue to lose weight.

When the Australian Mystery Writers’ Society invited me to their crime-writing festival aboard the Ghan, the famous train between Darwin and Adelaide, I was hoping for some inspiration for my second book. Fiction, this time: I needed a break from real people killing each other. Obviously, that didn’t pan out.

Historia
Stanley Yelnats is under a curse. A curse that began with his no-good-dirty-rotten-pig-stealing-great-great-grandfather and has since followed generations of Yelnatses. Now Stanley has been unjustly sent to a boys' detention center, Camp Green Lake, where the boys build character by spending all day, every day digging holes exactly five feet wide and five feet deep. There is no lake at Camp Green Lake. But there are an awful lot of holes.

Who hasn’t wondered for a split second what the world would be like if a person who is the object of your affliction ceased to exist? But then you’ve probably never heard of The McMasters Conservatory, dedicated to the consummate execution of the homicidal arts. To gain admission, a student must have an ethical reason for erasing someone who deeply deserves a fate no worse (nor better) than death. The campus of this “Poison Ivy League” college—its location unknown to even those who study there—is where you might find yourself the practice target of a classmate.

Historia
It is three in the morning when Bobby Western plunges from the Coast Guard tender into darkness. His dive light illuminates the sunken jet, nine bodies still buckled in their seats, hair floating, eyes devoid of speculation. Missing from the site are the pilot’s bag, the plane’s black box, and the tenth passenger. A collateral witness to machinations that can only bring him harm, Western is shadowed in body and spirit—by men with badges; by the ghost of his father, inventor of the bomb that melted glass and flesh in Hiroshima; and by his sister, the love and ruin of his soul.
