A great ode from Edmund
Revisado: 03-30-25
This is a great personal tell all kind of book. If you like White's novels, this will be enjoyable to you. Not hiding behind any characters, Edmund brings us into his honest and true world that is what influences his writing. Raw, direct, sexy, funny. AND the reader was just fantastic.

Historia
Randy Rainbow has a few things on his mind that he wants to talk about. As a savvy social commentator tuned into the public discourse, his unfailing intuition tells him that the perspective everyone in America is clamoring for is that of a privileged white male complaining about a bunch of shit. While writing his New York Times bestseller Playing With Myself, Randy saw an America in crisis. He knew that what the country needed to get back on its high heels was a hard-hitting gay agenda and here it is—Low Hanging Fruit.

Always entertaining
Revisado: 02-21-25
I laughed out loud a few times, giggled a lot. Randy is truly a talented man and love to support him. Was this some deep, exciting comedy, not really. But, was it really entertaining. Yes. He's got some fun insights. Some get a little repetitive, but insight still the same. He divulges some serious things about his life with a humorous edge, so it was nice to see a little bit about himself, personally, revealed. All in all, worthwhile. I'm not a cat person, but the chapter his cat narrates is very fun.

Historia
Three brothers tear their way through childhood—smashing tomatoes all over each other, building kites from trash, hiding out when their parents do battle, tiptoeing around the house as their mother sleeps off her graveyard shift. Paps and Ma are from Brooklyn—he’s Puerto Rican, she’s white—and their love is a serious, dangerous thing that makes and unmakes a family many times.

Packed with powerful imagery
Revisado: 01-27-25
This is a wonderful and powerful book for only 3 hours. So much is packed into the beautiful words. You move seamlessly through time passages as you learn about the position of these 3 brothers. I'm the youngest of three...I could totally relate. This young boy is on a high plane than the rest of his family and "sees" them for who they are. Then he seems himself for who he is. So raw and sweet and very well read by the narrator.

Historia
Greece in the age of heroes. Patroclus, an awkward young prince, has been exiled to the kingdom of Phthia to be raised in the shadow of King Peleus and his golden son, Achilles. “The best of all the Greeks”—strong, beautiful, and the child of a goddess—Achilles is everything the shamed Patroclus is not. Yet despite their differences, the boys become steadfast companions. Their bond deepens as they grow into young men and become skilled in the arts of war and medicine—much to the displeasure and the fury of Achilles’ mother, Thetis, a cruel sea goddess with a hatred of mortals.

Fantastic, my first Greek Tragedy
Revisado: 01-27-25
This was my first Greek tragedy. I always thought the language would be hard, I'd be lost not knowing about various gods etc. On the contrary. This was SO incredibly engaging, easy to follow, and beautifully read. Likely the best narrator I've heard giving voice to each character with ease. The sweetness and sexiness of the writing kept me fully engaged. I had no idea there would be a boy on boy love story. And told with such simplicity and beauty. My impression of the genre has been completely turned around. The story in its entirety is a complete comparison to the world today. Wars, greed, love, power, compassion. I highly recommend this read and look forward to more Greek god stories.

The best YA novel I've read
Revisado: 12-02-24
This is the best, by far, Young Adult/Coming of Age novel I've read. I love coming of age stories and this one is so beautifully and smartly written. The story is very dynamic with subtexts, symbolism, sweetness, tenderness, romance, pain, life lessons. I'm 59 years old. I love YA/Coming of Age novels...this set in 1989. It was like reliving my youth - the tragic and beautiful and learning times of the HIV/AIDS era. This is not just about that, but about humanity, friendship, first loves, pain, life choices. The story weaves race, class, generations, culture and more into the sweet, telling story. The cast of characters are very likely, nothing forced or seemingly created to make a story happen as can be the case sometimes. It is a must read for any current young adult (especially queer) who wants to learn a little of the history of the queer community during this era, but also who wants to learn about themselves in today's world as well. I also encourage anyone who lived and loved during then 80s to have a listen. You won't be disappointed. The narrators are fantastic. I will be recommending this to many people. Kudos to the author and production cast.

Historia
Boy George's compelling storytelling shines a light on his encounters with legendary figures like David Bowie, Prince, and Madonna, providing an intimate peek into the music industry's glittering world. Humor, sarcasm, and signature style are brought to this explosive and honest account of Boy George's life as a child growing up in sixties London and coming out to his Irish Catholic family. Hear his account of his exploration of his sexuality through the hedonism of the seventies (the glam rock and punk rock revolution that birthed Culture Club) and his ultimately embracing who he is today.

Great pop culture (club) read
Revisado: 10-19-24
I really enjoyed the travel through time with Boy George having grown up with his music and the music scene that is the setting for the book. You get a fair share of backstory gossip, much insight to who he was/is and how Culture Club came to be and went away and came back again. George has a fun sense of humor and hearing him read the story is that much better. Is he a great narrator? Not really. A bit monotone now and again, but you get used to his pentameter. Definitely enjoyed it and also enjoyed the journey he had in understanding himself. These life lessons can be applied to most anyone. Much sould searching has gone on within him and he shares it honestly and directly.

A recall of the past discrimination and abuse
Revisado: 08-09-24
The book is a pretty vivid recall in the average lives of a variety of men caught in a time when homosexuality was not only illegal, but vilified. It shows as a good reminder of the past. Read very very well by the narrator. My only issue was being a bit confused at times with flashing back and forth and keeping characters straight. This could be solely on me, but even though confused at times, it didn't hinder the drama and fear and anger these characters had because of their abuse and the situations they were all in.

Great listen
Revisado: 06-03-24
This was really a great listen. The narrator did an excellent job! As a coming of age story, it covered most of the usual subjects, but was not spoonfed like many. It was sweet to get to know our main character and watch him figure out life in his early 20s. It gives the reader more spoon for thought than handing out life advice. Lots of little surprises along the way.

Engaging crime fiction
Revisado: 04-23-24
The narrator really makes this story...one of the top of the readers I've heard. The story can have some lull moments, but Capote's exhaustive research creates a lot of back story and unfolds how this crime affected the community at large. Definitely enjoyed even with a few lulls in momentum. It gets right back on track.

From the glamorous to the entitled, from royalty to the financially ruined, everyone who wanted to be seen—or just to gawk—at the hottest restaurants in New York City came to places Michael Cecchi-Azzolina helped run. His phone number was passed around among those who wanted to curry favor, during the decades when restaurants replaced clubs and theater as, well, theater in the most visible, vibrant city in the world. Besides dropping us back into a vanished time, Your Table Is Ready takes us places we’d never be able to get into on our own.

Very fun, interesting and entertaining.
Revisado: 03-08-24
If you ever worked in a restaurant, hotel, hospitality industry, or just are curious about the behind-the-scenes of a very complicated fun and trying industry, you will love this book. Read very well by the author, and it gave so much insight and brought back so many memories of my days working in restaurants! There are a few glitches where edits come in after the original recording and the sound is not even, but it did not distract from the storyline or the narration at all.
