This begins with a predictable, albeit believable, relationship between a daughter and her Indian immigrant parents. The daughter's self centered perspective is visible during her sister in law's baby shower. She continues focusing on herself even when her sister in law lays in a coma. Her brother must decide to save his wife or unborn baby. When his wife wakes from surgery and her coma, she immediately blames the brother for his decision. This is despite her own motherless childhood, and heedless her child would have faced the same if she was chosen over her mother. The selfish characters who disregard everyone else are frustrating and unbelievable.

In an attempt to cover every area of Vietnamese culture, the author gives minimal information about any single area.

Trevor Noah is an incredibly engaging storyteller and narrator. His remarkable life is something I feel lucky he shared. Each character's voice comes through distinctly, and hearing the correct pronunciation of the African languages adds so much. I am sad it's over now.
