Historia
“You like it darker? Fine, so do I,” writes Stephen King in the afterword to this magnificent new collection of twelve stories that delve into the darker part of life—both metaphorical and literal. King has, for half a century, been a master of the form, and these stories, about fate, mortality, luck, and the folds in reality where anything can happen, are as rich and riveting as his novels, both weighty in theme and a huge pleasure to digest.

Historia

Very dull
Revisado: 10-01-24
If it wasn’t for the (great) reader I wouldn’t have finished this. This is shockingly dull fantasy, considering the popularity of the series, despite being almost completely built on the Lord of the Rings template. Save yourself some time.

Historia

I came out of the book with only a very vague se sense of what was going on. Must be one of the most hermetic novels I came across, and not in a good way.

Good BUT
Revisado: 11-14-17
I liked this more than the first one, and it’s interesting how all stories come together. The voice actor is great BUT he has so much range that makes some characters hard to follow because of the strong accent. Somehow the book requires more focus than usual.

Useful but weirdly structured
Revisado: 11-13-16
I found some of the concepts expressed here to be worth reflecting upon, even if probably I won't start regular meditation. One issue I have with the lessons is that practical exercises are mixed with philosophical discussions: it would have been better to have all the practical stuff in a separate section at the end. Also, Audible really need to step up the chapters naming. The current vague numeration really doesn't help much when you need to find something you heard before.

Historia
Immanuel Kant's "transcendental" philosophy transcends the question of "what" we know to ask "how" we know it. Before Kant, philosophers had debated for centuries whether knowledge is derived from experience or reason. Kant says that both views are partly right and partly wrong, that they share the same error; both believe that the mind and the world, reason and nature, are separated from one another.

Not easy to follow, accents are terrible!
Revisado: 04-26-13
What did you like best about Immanuel Kant? What did you like least?
Charlton Heston is a very good reader, however the idea to recite quotes with very strong accents is not only dumb and so pronounced to be bothering, but it makes following the discussion harder.
The topics explored are very complicated, I'd suggest to listen to it only if you can really focus on the content at all times.

An entertaining illumination of the stupid beliefs that make us feel wise. You believe you are a rational, logical being who sees the world as it really is, but journalist David McRaney is here to tell you that you're as deluded as the rest of us. But that's OK - delusions keep us sane. You Are Not So Smart is a celebration of self-delusion. It's like a psychology class, with all the boring parts taken out, and with no homework. Based on the popular blog of the same name, You Are Not So Smart collects more than 46 of the lies we tell ourselves everyday.

Life hacks
Revisado: 11-05-12
What made the experience of listening to You Are Not So Smart the most enjoyable?
I think most of the experiments the book discusses are things that is very useful to keep in mind while dealing with other people. They can give you and edge, or at least make some events easier to read.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
I'd say it's a bit too long for one sitting.
Any additional comments?
Maybe at times it feels a bit like a collection of experiments with some explanations in between, I feel that at times it could have been a bit more abstract and removed from specific research.

A truly interesting life
Revisado: 09-03-12
Would you listen to Steve Jobs again? Why?
Well, one time is enough, I'm not used to read (or listen) books twice if not in very specific cases.
What did you like best about this story?
He had a truly interesting life. And despite the fact that he was a really unpleasant person, he - without any doubt - shaped so many markets. This guy came up with so many things we take for granted now that it's hard to believe.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?
Think different?
