Rugged listen
Revisado: 05-13-25
Guy sounds like Tommy Lee Jones and when he does Hawk, everyone in the room gets a southern accent.
Plus it always sounds like he’s thirsty and need some water or a little bourbon.
And you can tell why he only got one book to record because he omitted the usual insufferable “Hawk said. Susan said. I said. Quirk said”s. Which are awful but you know Parker wasn’t having it. I read Burt Reynolds also caught some flack for leaving those out sometimes as well.

Historia
Between Parker's 1961 debut and his return in the late 1990s, the world of crime changed considerably. Now fake IDs and credit cards have to be purchased from specialists; increasingly sophisticated policing makes escape and evasion tougher; and, worst of all, money has gone digital - the days of cash-stuffed payroll trucks were long gone. But cash isn't everything, and now Parker's after a fortune in jewels. In Flashfire, Parker's in West Palm Beach, competing with a crew that has an unhealthy love of explosions. When things go sour, Parker finds himself shot and trapped - and forced to rely on a civilian to survive.

Narrator kills it
Revisado: 11-25-24
Other than David Dukes, this is the worst narrator on planet earth. Zero recognition of the source material. They should have to prove they know the books when reading a series.

Historia
The robbery was a piece of cake. The getaway was clean. And seven men were safely holed up in different places while Parker held all the cash. But somehow the sweet heist of a college football game turns sour, Parker's woman is murdered, and the take is stolen. Now Parker's looking for the lowlife who did him dirty, while the cops are looking for seven clever thieves - and Parker must outrun them all. When hunters and hunted meet, some win, some lose….

Super good story picking up on Parker having to rebuild after that last, dumb from the start, job burned his best alias to the ground

Historia
It was an impossible crime: knock off an entire North Dakota town called Copper Canyon - clean out the plant payroll, both banks, and all the stores in one night. Parker called it "science fiction," but with the right men (a score of them), he could figure it out to the last detail. It could work. If the men behaved like pros, cool and smart; if they didn't get impatient, start chasing skirts, or decide to take the opportunity to settle secret old scores…they just might pull it off.

He should have passed on this job
Revisado: 07-28-24
I hated everything about this job, especially the payout to work with that many people. Too many unknowns for a meager boodle. Fun to dig into all those characters and this narrator had his work cut out for him and really delivered. On to the next one.

Historia
The Outfit was organized crime with a capital O. They were big. They were bad. They were brutal. And no crook ever crossed them and lived to enjoy it. Except Parker. So they wanted Parker dead, and a hit man proved they meant business. Too bad for the Outfit he missed. Ripping off the Outfit was the easy part of Parker's game. Going one-on-one with Bronson, the Outfit's Big Boss, was the hard part.

Historia
Parker, the ruthless antihero of Richard Stark's eponymous mystery novels, is one of the most unforgettable characters in hardboiled noir. Lauded by critics for his taut realism, unapologetic amorality, and razor-sharp prose-style, Stark is a master of crime writing, his books as influential as any in the genre. Parker goes under the knife in The Man with the Getaway Face, changing his face to escape the mob and a contract on his life. Along the way he scores his biggest heist yet.

I had never heard of this author or series, and audible was smart for giving me the first book in the series for free. I’m not used to the protagonist being a flat out zero conscious criminal, really kinda fun tbh

Historia
“The Heron” is the nickname a big-city accountant has attached to himself in his new home near San Diego, where he’s using the alias to avoid a hit man who may be after him. It seems a former client believes that The Heron has skipped town with several million dollars not his own. Don Winslow’s ensuing, entertaining yarn is by turns twisty, dark, and comical as we observe the delicate dance between the pursuer and the pursued.

Kinda lame
Revisado: 05-07-23
Sunny doesn’t really do it for me, but I wanted to hear something by Lupica now that he’s for a Spenser book incoming. This was fine, but it baffles me that he and all the other writer for hire guys all feel compelled to bring in virtually all the other Spenser regulars in every novel, even if it’s just a mention. We believe you, we can tell you’re well versed in the Parkerverse. I’m going to keep an optimistic mind about the new one and just hope for the best.

Kinda Conflicted
Revisado: 05-03-23
This is a good book, but I hated it.
The narrator had his work cut out for him with the endless stream of characters (all of whom I hated) and the awful Boston accent to get through. Like sandpapering your forehead. But he did a really good job. I found it overall annoyingly predictable, but not everyone will, so if this your genre by all means give it a whirl. Or wait for the streaming version somebody is bound to produce and what has to be this novels manifest destiny.

Historia
Appie Knoll is the kind of suburb where kids grow up right. But something is wrong. Fourteen-year-old Kevin Bartlett disappears. Everyone thinks he's run away -- until the comic strip ransom note arrives. It doesn't take Spenser long to get the picture -- an affluent family seething with rage, a desperate boy making strange friends...friends like Vic Harroway, body builder. Mr. Muscle is Spenser's only lead and he isn't talking...except with his fists

Revisado: 03-26-23
With the exception of having to suffer through Susan from here on out, this is a terrific Spenser novel.
Superior crime fiction, in my opinion the best. Pritchard narrates wonderfully. Excellent book
