Historia
Logan’s sophomore year was fine. Destroy an ancient evil. Solve a murder mystery. Tell way too many silverware jokes. No big deal. His junior year, on the other hand, is shaping up to be the deadliest of them all. Shadowcroft Academy is hosting the Interschool Tournament, and though there is no Goblet, Logan and the Terrible Twelfth are about to find themselves tossed into the Fire.

Enjoyed it
Revisado: 03-26-24
Book 3 took a turn into slapstick silliness. While this series has been light hearted since the begining, this one seemed to go too deep in the direction of silliness. However, I still enjoyed the book and enjoyed the ending. Looking forward to year 4.

Historia
After narrowly surviving his first year at Shadowcroft Academy for Dungeons, Logan Murray - army vet turned fungaloid - thought the hardest and weirdest days of his life were finally behind him. Logan has never been that lucky. Students are being killed, more so than usual, and no one is quite sure why. Logan and the Terrible Twelfth suspect it has something to do with Arborea’s secretive past. Worse, solving the mystery is only one of Logan’s many problems.

Better than the first book
Revisado: 03-23-24
The story of the terrible twelve continues in this semi-light hearted action packed sequel. Enjoyed every minute of it.
The narrator's reading of the book has improved through the roof. Gone are the annoying pauses of the first book. His range of character voices is great.

Historia
Wounded Army vet Logan Murray thought mimics were the stuff of board games and dungeon manuals...right up until one ate him. In a flash of snapping teeth, Logan suddenly finds himself on the doorstep to another world. He’s been unwittingly recruited into the Shadowcroft Academy for Dungeons - the most prestigious interdimensional school dedicated to training the monstrous guardians who protect the Tree of Souls from so-called heroes. Heroes who would destroy the universe if it meant a shot at advancement.

Excellent story
Revisado: 03-17-24
As others have mentioned it's part Harry Potter with adult students. I'll add that it's also part Monster University. The narrator does a great job a giving each character their own voice making it easy to know who's speaking. However, the pauses nearly had me give up on the book. The pausing isn't as bad in the last quarter or so of the book. Not sure if it's the narrator's style or if the book was written with super short paragraphs. But even if that were the case the narrator should have read it all together. As it stands it makes it difficult for the listener to immerse themselves in the story.
Stick with it, the story is worth it.

Overall good
Revisado: 11-26-23
The pacing of the book is far too slow. I couldn’t help but agree with Nieve every time she complained about not having anything to punch on the train. The first half of the book was difficult for me to get through. Very little action, too much focus on puzzles. The second half of the book reeled me back in and was very enjoyable.
In the first book we lost half of the team after the book spent a great deal of time building on the character backgrounds. As the remaining main characters move to a different spire, you’re introduced to new team mates. To me that felt like a step backwards as time is spent introducing them, getting you familiar with some of their background. I’m guessing that’s going to be the norm as the series takes us from spire to spire.
I wish they wouldn’t have excluded Sage from most of the story. Had he been part of the team then maybe the overall story would have been more interesting.
I do have to say I love Nieve’s new found powers. Looking forward to seeing more of that in action.
The second half of the book redeems the plot. But just barely. Overall it’s good but not great.

Historia
A young man lives among the trees of a primeval forest, raised by a wizened old sage and friend to the faeries and spirits of his home. He bears only half a name—Lien, an ancient word meaning "blade" or "edge"—and no knowledge of his heritage. As he grows, so too does his need for independence and answers. Thus, he begins his adventure, seeking a shattered sword and the truth behind the mysterious mark on his right hand.

Best in the series

It was great to see gang grow in power and mature in this story. Some arcs come to a close and new ones take their place. The ending was a bit unexpected. Looking forward to book five.
Highly recommend it.

Loved the short stories, and unlikely mix of protagonists. The voice actors all did a great job. I would recommend this to fans of the Predator and Alien franchises.

An interesting take on AI.
Revisado: 05-16-22
The author has a true gift at describing combat. The descriptions of battle place you in the middle of the action gripping you until the fight is over. As for the story itself, it was an interesting take on our ever growing dependency on technology and how things could go terribly wrong. But I struggled to connect to a single character as none of them really stood out. Worst of the bunch was ghost and his non stop singing in nearly every scene he’s in.
Timothy Pepper from the Hell Diver series remains the ultimate AI :)
As for the performance, R. C. Bray hits it out of the park as usual, except for the singing parts, but you can’t hold that against him.

If you think it’s hard being a hobgoblin or a human, try living a goblin’s life for a while. In fact, try imagining what it’s like to be the runtiest goblin in the caves, the lone worshiper of a god who’s been forgotten for a good reason, and the target everyone points to at the first hint of trouble. Try picturing yourself as Jig Dragonslayer, and see how you like it....
