Historia
In a house full of history and secrets, the past will not stay where it belongs.... Lou has always loved Hill House, the derelict manor on the abandoned land near her home. As a child, the tragic history of its owners, the Mandevilles, inspired her dream to become a history teacher. But in her late 20s, working in a shop to pay off student debts, life is passing her by. That changes when a family disaster sends Lou’s life into a downward spiral, and she seeks comfort in the ruined corridors of Hill House.

Get to the point!
Revisado: 10-15-24
Beautiful story. Although I feel like it could have been half the length. So many times I said out loud to myself “get to the point!” There is such a thing as over description. I don’t need to hear about every single dust amount that floated down when she opened the curtain. I don’t need to hear about how every pore of her finger felt when she touched a particular fabric.

Slowest. Narrator. Ever.
Revisado: 10-05-24
It was really hard to listen to this. The narrator talks so incredibly slow. I think the story would’ve been fine if I had managed to listen to the whole thing.

Historia
On a splendid August afternoon, Susanna Osbourne is introduced to the most handsome man she has ever seen...and instantly feels the icy chill of recognition. Peter Edgeworth, Viscount Whitleaf, is utterly charming - and seemingly unaware that they have met before. With his knowing smile and seductive gaze, Peter acts the rake; but he stirs something in Susanna she has never felt before, a yearning that both frightens and dazzles her.

Confused about the narration
Revisado: 10-19-23
In earlier books in the series, Susanna has what sounds like a Scottish or Irish accent. It’s 100% English in this book. I was quite confused.

Historia
From 1501 to 1505, Leonardo da Vinci and Michelangelo Buonarroti both lived and worked in Florence. Leonardo was a charming, handsome 50-year-old at the peak of his career. Michelangelo was a temperamental sculptor in his mid-20s, desperate to make a name for himself. Michelangelo is a virtual unknown when he returns to Florence and wins the commission to carve what will become one of the most famous sculptures of all time: David.

The narrator should stay away from European accents. I couldn’t get past the first chapter. He made Leonardo sound like Count Dracula.

Good, Not Great
Revisado: 09-28-21
I read the reviews after I listened to this. I had absolutely no problem with the narrator, however I am not from the south. I did not find her voice sing-songy and I liked that I could absolutely tell the difference between the different character speaking.
The character of Ada never really quite matures the way I hoped, and her maturity at the end seemed to happen very, very quickly.

Revisado: 10-25-19
Slowest. Narrator. Ever. I had to bump up the speed to 1.25 just to get through the book. Unfortunately that didn't fix the problem with the robotic delivery. It's a shame, because I really liked the story line and characters.

Horrible American Accent
Revisado: 05-26-17
Is there anything you would change about this book?
The narrator's American accent is horrific. I cringed every time the character Matt spoke.
Did Gerri Halligan do a good job differentiating all the characters? How?
She did well with the voices, EXCEPT FOR THE AMERICANS. Oh my gosh, has she never been to the USA?
