Historia
Set during the Golden Age of Pirates and the shadowy aftermath of the Salem witch trials, this vivid literary debut is inspired by the captivating true story of real-life pirate Samuel Bellamy, combining high seas adventure, star-crossed longing, surprisingly timely questions about social justice and freedom, and the emotionally satisfying tale of one strong-willed young woman determined to choose her own path.

I loved the attention to telling of a story based on such interesting facts
Revisado: 12-13-24
I enjoyed this story especially when I listened to the authors notes and realized how much of the story was true.
That made it much more interesting.
But so did not care for the narrator. She made the story feel uninteresting because she did not put much feeling into the voices of the characters.
I also did not feel it was necessary to write in “woke” mentality into a story that is 300 years old. It felt like the author was trying to “check off the boxes.”

Liked the story not the narrator
Revisado: 08-27-24
The story was very well written. Although I thought there was a little too much “man hating”.
The narration was not well done and much of the time sounded mechanical.
The words did not roll off the tongue as needed to be realistic.

Historia
In her essay on Jacquetta, Philippa Gregory uses original documents, archaeology and histories of myth and witchcraft to create the first-ever biography of the young duchess who was to survive two reigns and two wars to become the first lady at two rival courts. David Baldwin, established author on the Wars of the Roses, tells the story of Elizabeth Woodville, the first commoner to marry a king of England for love, and Michael Jones, fellow of the Royal Historical Society, writes of Margaret Beaufort, the almost-unknown matriarch of the House of Tudor. The Women of the Cousins’ War will appeal to all.

If you are a lover of the English Middle Ages as I you will enjoy the telling of the stories of these three amazing women. Of course you will know the names because you have read every Phillipa Gregory novel about them.
The narrator is exactly the storyteller one would want for this amazing book.

Historia
Daphne always loved the way her fiancé Peter told their story. How they met (on a blustery day), fell in love (over an errant hat), and moved back to his lakeside hometown to begin their life together. He really was good at telling it…right up until the moment he realized he was actually in love with his childhood best friend Petra. Which is how Daphne begins her new story.

I loved the double plot in this book! Very well thought out. I also enjoyed most of the performances, especially the 70’s timeline. The modern storyline was not as authentically performed. I would recommend this read to anyone who loves a twisty thriller!
