Revisado: 11-17-24
I thought the book series had ended with the previous novel. but I was very happy to see this as a continuation. it brought the story to an epic climax and a feel-good conclusion. it was nice to see the characters progress a little bit more and wrap up loose ends. well done Ben, You are the bestest boi;)

I miss the single-mindedness of the old Reacher
Revisado: 01-03-23
I can feel the influence of Andrew on this one. There were several moments, like the beginning. Reacher doesn't get instant gratification. But he got it at the start of the book on this one. Any time he's close with a potential mate, it's drawn out, as a good story should be. But here, it's at the beginning. No wait, only reward. As Reacher would say it, "too good to be true."
Mild Spoiler:
Near the end of the book, Reacher pulls off a MacGyver stunt with electrical work. At no point in his career as an MP, did he get training or display a heater knowledge of electrical systems as a whole. And this is where the story lost me.
In the last book, I felt the influence of Andrew. Little moments when Reacher second guessed himself rather that what the other guy would do. Things like that.
I like the character, that's why I'm so reading/listening. But the influence of Andrew in the mix is turning me off to the series as a whole. And I fear it will do the same to others. As time goes on, the way these co-authored books are scene will change. And if it does, readers will leave, and the series will die. I don't want that.
Sincerely,
Virgil Allen Moore

Misery's End
Revisado: 12-28-22
I love this series.
with that said, the ending of this book hurt. It was a slightly open ended way out. But what was painful were the events. I felt a connection to the characters, which is a great sign, and by the time all of the characters' mistakes came to fruition it was a glorious train wreck.
I love the story, and this was a very reminiscent to the ending of Gurren Lagann. All pain, but pain we all saw coming.
Michael Manning, You made a hard choice and I come into for it.
Sincerely,
Virgil Allen Moore

There are few stories that take 11 hours to deliver. this is one of them. If you're patient, and you like very long form character development, then this is a good story. But if you don't like that, then you may not enjoy this story.

Spirit Ex Machina
Revisado: 11-11-21
Honestly, I like this book series. I want to say that up front.
With that said, one phrase, "It needed a hint of spirit." Spirit solves EVERYTHING. Not sure how to protect, use any element and add, what was it that it needs??? Ah, spirit, that's it!! Spirit is exactly what it needs! need to boost your magic?? Just add spirit. Need to cast Sending? Use spirit and whisper. Need to ping other magic casters? Send out a wave of spirit with another element. Need to overcome an issue? Add spirit! Need to overpower an enemy that's using all the elements??? Oh, what's that? They're only using four elements? That means to meet to add spirit to win.
I get the themes of self discovery and empowerment. But please lighten up on the overuse of this one word. This McGuffin is beaten to death, raised from the dead, nursed back to health, put on a torture rack, wrung out, and brought back behind the shed to be shot in the morning. And then that's repeated a few times.
So as long as you can get over that. It's a great read.
Sincerely,
Virgil Allen Moore

Great Book!
Revisado: 06-02-21
I am honestly amazed as to how much actual occult knowledge and how much pop culture occult knowledge Ben Reeder has. Truly, Bravo Sir. Bravo!
As for the book, thoroughly enjoyed it. Not only are there tie-ins with the first novel, which is something I loved, but the characters are more fleshed out. As one dimensional as the character names are, the actual characters are awesome. The interactions between them will pull your emotions all over the place. It drew me in.
To the potential reader or listener, get this book. If you at all enjoyed The Demon's Apprentice, you will enjoy this book.

Revisado: 03-02-21
Manning has a way of drawing out emotions. For three days straight I felt the anxiety of a certain key emotional plot point. So much so, that I kept thinking over the ramifications of the situation and what I'd do in that place. Well done, Sir!
This is a masterful series. June can't come any faster as the narrator of this series does such a great job, I don't want to change the format. I'd rather wait.
If you enjoyed the other books in this series, you'll enjoy this.
