Historia
Two days after a megaquake and tsunami combine to wreak havoc on the Pacific Northwest, Clint and his daughter are together at last. Instead of retreating to safety, they're on a one-way mission into the heart of the disaster. Chaos on the streets, impassable routes, and the worst of human nature combine to thwart them at every turn. But Mika's mom is missing, and they won't stop until they find her.

Suspend disbelief
Revisado: 05-15-24
Love this genre, but this writing tok me out of the storyline with all the things I couldn't believe. Just the small things I couldn't imagine people actually doing.

Engaging novels with characters that you come to care about. Even if you want to smack them sometimes. Good read.

Lots of stereotypes
Revisado: 02-05-23
I read the entire book, unlike some of the reviews I've seen. The story is largely full of tropes of radical women, 'conservatives' and rural places. There is a lot of evily evil evilness, that unless you dehumanize conservative white men you could never believe. As a scientist concerned about climate change I was hopeful that this would be a contribution to storytelling about this important issue. Instead it is a recitation of stereotypes.

Interesting post- apocalyptic thriller
Revisado: 10-30-22
Enjoyed this novel which takes a interesting twist on the genre. One of the very few post -apocalyptic no els that really focuses on food production (or lack thereof) as the core of the plot.

Historia
Candace Chen, a millennial drone self-sequestered in a Manhattan office tower, is devoted to routine. With the recent passing of her Chinese immigrant parents, she’s had her fill of uncertainty. She’s content just to carry on: She goes to work, troubleshoots the teen-targeted Gemstone Bible, watches movies in a Greenpoint basement with her boyfriend. So Candace barely notices when a plague of biblical proportions sweeps New York.

Interesting take on the zombpocolypse
Revisado: 08-22-22
Ling Ma creates an interesting tale of a pandemic combined with the issues of immigration and the sense of being unrooted. She explores issues of child -parent- family relationships throughout her journey in a newly depopulated world.
