Gut wrenching road to reality
Revisado: 10-03-24
This was an hour as honest and account as I’ve ever read in a memoir. For a rider to make herself, this vulnerable is really astounding. I really felt her story. The fact that her uncle is trying to be president again with a family history like this… Well, I’m 10 times more frightened than I was before I read the book.

I wish Agatha Christie could’ve lived forever
Revisado: 09-24-24
I have been looking for something similar to the Agatha Christie style cozy mysteries. I love Dorothy Sayers and Ngaio Marsh as well. Just having found it and perhaps I never will.
I found the character development in this book. Interesting. But it just felt a little too cute for me. It’s rare for me not finish a book, but I gave up.

Well, written and interesting
Revisado: 04-29-23
Well, written book. I follow the royal family and English history pretty closely, so it wasn’t that I learned a lot of new things, but I did get a better chronology of Megxit. I intend to awake at 2 AM on May 6 to watch the coronation.

Historia
Retired US Army Lieutenant Colonel Alexander Vindman, who found himself at the center of a firestorm for his decision to report the infamous phone call that led to presidential impeachment, tells his own story for the first time. Here, Right Matters is a stirring account of Vindman's childhood as an immigrant growing up in New York City, his career in service of his new home on the battlefield and at the White House, and the decisions leading up to, and fallout surrounding, his exposure of President Trump's abuse of power.

Right matters But currently isn’t in style
Revisado: 02-13-23
Riveting, educational, and very sad. I already respected Lindeman, but now my respect has gone off the charts. There are very few people in service to the country who are willing to do what he did. That’s where the sadness comes in. Learning about his early years, really added a dimension to what he did that I wasn’t aware of before. It isn’t unusual to find out that immigrants frequently are more loyal to the Constitution and native born citizen. It should be unusual, but it isn’t.

Historia
There is but one aim: the summit, the summit of Mount Everest. What starts with a trouble-free trek into the Nepalese highlands explodes into a gripping tale of hardship, peril, and adversity. Pushed beyond their physical and mental limits, climbers drop by the wayside. Their primal instincts for survival battle with their dogged resolve to drag themselves to the top of the world. But the focus remains: battle to the summit, and if successful, somehow get back down again.

As if I was there on Everest
Revisado: 02-05-23
This is one of the best narratives I read of an ascent on Everest. The level of detail takes the reader with the climber so closely that the reader can get lost in the story. Fabulous I really enjoyed it.

Historia
Life is not easy for the poor relations of England’s upper crust, but fate and clever schemes bring them together. Lady Fortescue and Colonel Sandhurst hatch a plan: What if they were to transform her decrepit Bond Street home into a posh hotel, offering their guests the pleasure of being waited upon by nobility? With the help of other down-and-out aristocrats, they do just that, and London’s newest hotel, The Poor Relation, is born. The establishment is an immediate hit with London’s most illustrious citizens, save the Duke of Rowcester....

Disappointing

I can’t believe this tome was written by MC Beaton. I really enjoyed the Hamish Macbeth series and absolutely howled my way through Agatha Raisin, but this was tediously corny at best.

Unbelievable
Revisado: 10-25-21
I don’t know where to start. This book, although tedious at times, is a history of British coding during the better portion of World War II. Although I have known in general that cryptography exist, I knew nothing of how it was developed or used.
Marx gave a view of the war I never knew. Although sometimes offended by his attitude towards women, I wrote it off to the times preferring to concentrate on his unbelievable coding creations, The operations and people involved in the field and political gamesmanship at home.

After nearly quitting Louise Penny’s Inspector Gamache books (I’ve read all in series up though this one-totally put off by last one,-The Beautiful mystery)Louise Penny books in order, I took a chance on this one and was hooked immediately. This was an absolute hair-raising read. Beautifully written as always.

The very aptly named Mr Pong had the kind of breath that could stun at over ten feet… This wasn’t just bad – there was something rotten down there. Something had crawled in and died. Gunter howled with laughter as he saw the look of horror on my face. It was the best entertainment he had seen since he had watched Chef chasing yaks through the kitchens.

Disappointing
Revisado: 08-01-20
Given the authors of this book, I was so disappointed in the first book of the series. I figured out who the murderer was well before the end. Also, I noticed a similarity to the Campion stories where Campion has a “helper” that is also an x-criminal. In this tale however, the person isn’t his butler as is the case with Campion but I noticed it right away. Do I read the second book in the series to see if things improve? I’m willing to do that but I far prefer that Louise Penny mysteries!
